Position Summary
The Director of Gas Operations’ responsibility is providing direction and management for all Gas Operations activities including resource management, system maintenance, new construction, system operations/dispatch, compliance, and regulatory affairs.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Ensures the safety and reliability of the CoServ natural gas delivery system in accordance with company policy, applicable regulatory requirements, and current industry standards.
- Ensures compliance with Gas Employee Handbook, Gas Employee Safety Handbook and city, state, and federal regulations.
- Provides direction and leadership to those engaged in performing meter sets, customer connects, disconnects, high bill complaints leak investigations, reads and other service type work.
- Provides direction and leadership to those engaged in performing construction and maintenance of the company gas system.
- Provides direction and leadership to those engaged in performing compliance and pressure control functions on the company gas system.
- Provides direction and leadership to personnel and activities as related to first response to damaged lines, outages, and disasters on an emergency basis.
- Provides direction and leadership to those who perform audits on company and contract personnel for assurance of compliance with company Operator Qualification Program.
- Provides direction and leadership to those who perform damage prevention functions.
- Provides direction and leadership to who perform pipeline safety compliance and technology functions.
- Member of the company Utility Operating Council which is responsible for reviewing and updating the company Operations Manual.
- Member of the company Standards Committee which is responsible for developing operational and construction standards.
- Member of the GIS Steering Committee which is responsible for providing direction for the company GIS system.
- Proposes technology solutions for operational items and works with IS/IT for research, development, and implementation.
- Responsible for assuring all state and federal pipeline safety reports are submitted accurately and on time.
- Responsible for the development and ongoing monitoring of the department’s operating budget and the correlation of financial and operational information.
- Responsible for the departmental Emergency Response Plan including updates and assignments.
- Responsible for each departments Employee Development Plan including management and implementation of the plan.
- Responsible for the Company SCADA system and operations of the company piping system.
- Ensures work performed by employees meets the requirements of the Company’s Operations Manual and is performed by qualified and certified individuals.
- Maintains relationship with city, county, and state officials.
- Assists the Sr. Vice President- Field Operations on strategic planning.
- Complies with established CoServ Safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines. Responsible for reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
- Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Responsible for reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities
Ensures member and customer complaints are resolved promptly and professionally.- Responsible for accurate as-built and invoicing closing process through the accounting department for construction and service projects.
- Reviews reports and scorecards regarding employee performance and adherence to standards and good practices.
- Actively promote CoServ’s objectives, plans, programs and goals.
- Attends meetings, conferences, schools, and workshops to maintain and increase knowledge about utility best practices.
- Attends CoServ University training as required.
- Identifies staffing needs and recommends training sources. Coaches and directs learning through direct involvement and reinforcement.
- Monitors performance and conducts performance planning and review sessions consistent with established time frames and guidelines.
- Ensures proper use and maintenance of all assigned fleet vehicles to department personnel.
- Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Position Requirements
Education and Certifications Required
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in the gas utility industry.
Education and Certifications Preferred
Management Internship Program (MIP)- NRECA.
Experience Required
A minimum of (10) years of experience in the gas utility industry with a minimum of (5) years of supervisory experience.
