What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician position at Cotton Court?

Job summary:  

The Engineer Tech will communicate with guests in a friendly and welcoming manner with a smile.  Will be working directly with Operations teams to handle work orders, guest calls, and general maintenance.  Reporting to the Chief Engineer, to PM rooms, handle projects, maintenance needs, and training.  Maintain the hotel in accordance with company standards by coordinating preventive maintenance and repairs as necessary.  This position requires strong attention to detail, time management, organization, multi-tasking, and the ability to effectively deal with department heads, guests, and team members.  Engineer Techs will promote an atmosphere that insures customer and associate satisfaction. Valencia Hotel Group is a growing hotel company and currently has 7 hotels across Texas and California.

Shift requirements:

Shifts are 8 am to 4 pm, 3 pm to 11 pm, and mid-shifts as needed by hotel.

Responsibilities

Prioritize all work requests ensuring handling of guest and staff problems, and inner hotel challenges

Update and maintain Hotel Maintenance Programs

Maintain Checklists and ensure they are completed

Maintain proper controls and chemical levels of swimming pool

Respond to all life systems alarms

Fulfill Risk Management duties as assigned

Ensure all life systems are operational and meet all requirements

Working knowledge of all aspects of property operation and repair, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, kitchen equipment and fountain operation, plumbing and mechanical operations

Good Working Knowledge of Information Technology including but not limited to, Telephone Systems, Computers, servers, printers and software applications

Maintain appropriate preventative maintenance of hotel mechanical equipment

Handle hotel projects from start to finish, as assigned

Seek out and put forward energy saving ideas and eco-friendly programs

Relentlessly train and motivate customer service employees

Maintain integrity of cost controls and proper maintenance of hotel assets

Any other duties assigned by your immediate supervisor

  • Communicate with all other departments to fulfill guests’ needs
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary
  • Attend required meetings
  • Keep work areas clean and organized

Maintain, repair and troubleshoot all manageable mechanical operations and equipment including, the following areas:

Electrical-switches, lamps/ballasts, electrical receptacles, etc.

Plumbing- fixtures repair and replacement, pvc/cu pipe, drain clearing and repair, water heater, etc.

Carpentry- drywall, wallpaper, painting, caulking, tile repair and replacement windows, doors, locks, furniture repair, etc.

Check all exterior lighting, public area lighting, and signage daily. This includes: parking lot lights, high rises, entrance signs, walking lights, corridor, lobby and elevator.

Maintains rooms in operating condition by performing repairs as needed

Performs preventive maintenance throughout the hotel and report progress to office coordinator

Have a thorough understanding of hotel fire alarm procedures and other emergencies

Mechanical-equipment maintenance (washer, dryer, vacuum cleaners, plaza gates etc.)

Other general repairs as necessary

  • Possess a good mechanical knowledge of how to safely operate and maintain all tool
  • Be extremely courteous to all customers and fellow employees
  • Report unsafe conditions to your supervisor immediately
  • Assure all safety and security policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Maintain hotel equipment in proper working conditions
  • Any other duties assigned by your immediate supervisor
  • Comply with Valencia Hotel Group (and its affiliates) standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Valencia Hotel Group (and its affiliates) standards as required by scheduling which will vary dependent upon the Hotel needs
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications: 

  • Hotel Operations or Customer Service experience preferred
  • Communicates effectively with others
  • Works productively with a team
  • Effective multitasking skills
  • Composure and patience under pressure
  • Skilled in working with multiple computer programs
  • Excellent customer service skills

Strong English communication and organizational skills

Must be available to work mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
