Who We Are
The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $873M and 2,151 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing, and contracting, ISD is the County's trusted partner and provider of choice.
We are pursuing a qualified candidate to fill a Millwright responsible for the repair and overhaul of a variety of machinery and equipment, requiring the use of all basic machine shop tools in repairing or fabricating precision replacement parts.
Dismantles or partially dismantles machinery and equipment to locate cause of malfunctioning or mechanical breakdowns and to gain access to broken or defective parts; replaces parts from stock, makes repairs, or fabricates replacement parts.
Reassembles, installs, and aligns machinery and equipment and makes such adjustments as necessary to ensure proper operation.
Sets up and manually operates conventional lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinding machines, and other basic machine shop tools, involving working within close tolerances, in the repair or fabrication of precision machined metal parts, such as shafts, bearings, and gears, necessary to the repair of a variety of machinery and mechanical equipment.
Uses a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
Works from verbal instructions, sketches, and blueprints in modifying or fabricating special purpose equipment or fixtures using ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Works on a variety of machinery and equipment such as boilers, pumps, fans, and compressors.
Welds and heat-treats metals.
Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites as needed.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
3 - Moderate: Includes standing or waking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10 - 25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
* A recognized Apprenticeship Program is defined as a customizable model of apprenticeship that has been validated by a proven Standards Recognition Entity (i.e. Millwright apprentice, Electrician apprentice. Carpenter apprentice. Brick mason...)
**Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.
Our Assessment ProcessIf you meet the requirements, we will invite you to a structured interview covering training, experience, and the general ability to perform the duties of the position weighted 100%.
You must achieve a score of 70% or higher on the assessment in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.

Eligibility Information
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the assessment will be placed on the eligible register for a period of twelve (12) months.
