GENERAL PURPOSE
The Custodial Watchperson is responsible for doing rounds of the Government Center buildings on one (1) of three (3) shifts, as assigned. This position patrols the assigned areas every two (2) to three (3) hours.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
A position in this class reports directly to the Custodian Crew Leader and Custodial Superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees or functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
Locks buildings at the end of the day.
Sets up and oversees the use of the sign in log for any entry or exit after business hours.
Allows building entry to workers on weekends.
Patrols buildings every two (2) to three (3) hours during shift. Checks doors, windows, stairwells, and other building elements to assure they are closed, locked, and secure.
Directs visitors to appropriate locations.
Reports activities and occurrences to higher level personnel.
During patrol identifies building custodial and/or maintenance needs.
Deliver newspapers on weekend to assigned offices.
Replace water bottles in areas of need - Courtroom and Deliberation Rooms.
Reads gauges for water and air pressure on boiler and fire systems.
Signs log when checked.
Calls on-call maintenance when issues arise. Notifies Supervisor if necessary.
Fills out Watchperson Incident Report at the end of each shift.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited below.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to read directions, instructions and safety precautions pertaining to building custodial and security patrol work.
Ability to read directions, instructions and safety precautions pertaining to alarm systems and the like and to maintain basic records of activities.
Ability to learn the specific uses of any assigned equipment and products.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to respond correctly and politely to associates, other County personnel, and the public.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
