Positions in the Safety Technician class provide specialized paraprofessional and administrative support to safety and occupational health programs.
The Safety Technician is a paraprofessional and administrative class providing specialized technical support to the safety and occupational health program of a department. The class generally reports to a higher-level safety position and provides technical support under direction. The class may provide routine training and conduct minor accident investigation. It is distinguished from the Safety Specialist in that the Safety Specialist performs the more complex, difficult, and comprehensive safety duties with a higher degree of independence. Knowledge of
- General knowledge of safety practices, policies, and procedures.
- Grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.
- Basic mathematics in order to make calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and averages.
- A variety of computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
- Learn safety rules and regulations.
- Deal tactfully with people.
- Keep work records and prepare reports.
- Read, write and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance.
- Provide effective training.
Either:
1. Two years experience in a Sacramento County advanced journey level clerical class.
Note: If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

General Qualifications
Driver’s License: possession of a valid Class C or higher California Driver's License is required prior to appointment. Failure to maintain the appropriate driver's license may constitute cause for disciplinary action. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Physical Abilities: mobility to work in a typical office setting, using standard office equipment, vision to read printed material, speech to communicate in person and over the phone. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Probationary Period
The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months. APPLICATION

FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%)
All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination.
This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.
All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
