What are the responsibilities and job description for the HR Generalist position at Covenant Logistics?
The HR Generalist performs Human Resource related duties at the professional level, carrying out responsibilities in some or all the following functional areas: day one on-boarding, employee relations, benefits administration, procedure development, performance management, and special projects.
- Administers various human resource policies and procedures for assigned business unit; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
- Manages leave of absence administration and works closely with third party vendor to manage FMLA/LOA requests and Short-Term Disability claims.
- Assists with resolving various employee relations issues. Conducts effective, non-bias and thorough investigations by partnering with HR Manager. Ensures all investigations receive prompt resolution.
- Assists with I9 and E-Verify Management to include day one processing, audits, and communication with those responsible for the E-Verify process.
- Point person for assistance with Benefits Administration/questions from team members.
- Assists with management of unemployment claims and ensuring proper response to each claim to include management of unemployment hearings.
- Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
- Works with HR Management team to help monitor and maintain compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
- Work with other HR team members to assist both drivers and non-drivers on a timely basis. Answer emails and phone calls in a timely manner to ensure timely resolution.

Education and Experience
- General knowledge of employment law and practices.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business/HR Management or equivalent work experience required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of Human Resource Specialist experience required. Previous HR Generalist experience preferred.
- Professional Human Resource (PHR), Senior Professional Human Resource (SPHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential preferred.
- Experience with multi-state environment preferred; Logistics/Trucking Industry experience a plus
- Experience with rapid and complex changing work environment
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve

The system will be objective and non-discriminatory.
Pay Range: $45,007.59-$69,574.81
Pay Grade: 7
