Covia is looking for a dynamic Maintenance person who will have a positive impact on the team at its Hephzibah, GA location. As a Maintenance person, you will ensure the safe and productive operation of the plant and must possess aptitude for maintenance disciplines and be proficient in the maintenance of equipment associated with all functional areas within the plant.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
- Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns. Must report unsafe conditions to supervisor; take action to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Report malfunctions of equipment and deficiencies in processes.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, calibration, and repairing equipment, to detect and prevent problems.
- Examine work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether instrumentation or other errors contributed to the problems.
- Work can include maintaining, installing, moving, dismantling, and repairing process equipment, repairing vehicles, machines, motors, etc.
- Learning the computer systems and instruments that operate the plants for trouble shooting issues.
- Maintaining and repairing buildings, materials handling or transporting equipment, heavy mining equipment, electrical equipment, and systems.
- Operating material handling equipment; uses a variety of tools and equipment, i.e., oxyacetylene cutting and welding equipment, electric welding equipment, jack hammers, presses, power saws, and hand tools.
- Plan maintenance work with operations, contractors, and other plant employees as requested by Maintenance supervisor.
- Maintains record of labor used on each job; cleans work area; and performs other related tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
- If business or operational situations necessitate, the Maintenance personnel may be called upon to backfill operations personnel. They are also expected to proactively assist operations personnel as needed in daily activities to meet organizational objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational training given preference
- Experience as a mechanic or multi-craft technician is mandatory.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- MSHA certification is a plus.
- Experience is a mining environment is a plus.
- Working experience with screw conveyors, belts, feeders, rotary valves, dust collectors.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability and willingness to work safely and wear PPE as required.
- Must have experience using computers and maintenance software.
- Experience using smart devices: Tablets, iPad.
- Good communication skills: verbal and written.
- Must be willing to work overtime and be available for call backs.
- Must be capable of working in all areas and locations of plant sites
- Work closely with Maintenance and Production personnel on site, as well as assist teammates in completing tasks outside the scope of typical responsibilities.
- Maintain parts inventory.
- Requires good manual dexterity, vision, hearing, eye hand coordination and be physically capable of performing heavy work. Must be able to wear a respirator if required for an extended period. Must be able to work in elevated locations
