Covia is looking for a dynamic Mechanic who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Tamms, IL location.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
- Practice all facets of the safety and health policies while adhering to the SLAM risk method within the sphere of all tasks
- Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all safety procedures concerning the maintenance mechanic position, including but not limited to, the (NFPA70E-Based) arc flash electrical hazards safe work practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform a Pre-Task Risk Assessment or JSA (Job Safety Analysis) utilizing the Covia Corporation Slam Risks Checklist program.
- Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all Federal and local – site specific Lockout & Tag-out procedures for working on or testing mobile and or stationary machinery and equipment.
- The ability to work from elevated work platforms and ladders using personal protection equipment such as, full body safety harnesses and lanyards.
- Working in confine spaces such as, the internal spaces of grinding mills, crushers, tanks and silos, cyclones and dust collectors.
- Working with dust filtration equipment such as, replacing dust bags and cartridges in dust collectors.
- Layout and fabrication of items such as, guards, chutes, etc. from rough sketches and dimensions.
- Other duties as assigned or required by supervisor.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years of experience minimal in the servicing and repair of power transmission components such as, sprocket, chain, belt and gear drives.
- Five years of experience minimal in the servicing and repair of bulk handling equipment such as, screw conveyors, bucket elevators and pneumatic conveying equipment.
- Welding skills consisting of: Vertical and overhead welding, oxy and acetylene welding and cutting.
- The ability to utilize basic test instruments to locate problems.
- The ability to troubleshoot 110/ 240 volt and 480 volt controls, starters and motors.
- To be available for scheduled 24 hour call out.
