Job Description
The Senior Linux Operations Engineer is a member of a highly specialized T3 operations team within the Advanced Network Platform (ANP) group. The position will report to the Director of ANP. The technical focus of this position will be for Content Delivery Network which is the core delivery platform for all of Cox's video services.
Responsibilities will include troubleshooting and resolving complex hardware and software issues on the CDN, performing initial deployment activities for the individual components of the platform, and serving as an escalation point for multiple internal and external groups for any operational issues involving the CDN. These responsibilities will involve heavy Linux sys-admin activities along with running scripts and ansible playbooks to address common issues - and generating and distributing platform health and ad-hoc statistical reports. This position will include on-call responsibilities and will be expected to be able to respond in an expedient manner to issues that occur outside normal business hours when on-call. As a member of the Advanced Network Platform team, you'll not only work closely with engineers that design our CDN, but also the engineers that design and support our Visibility Architecture and DDoS Mitigation platforms. It's a small team delivering state of the art solutions with some of the most exciting technology in the industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform advanced-level troubleshooting and drive resolution of complex hardware and software issues on the Content Delivery Network.
- Interpret and modify scripts and ansible playbooks to automate troubleshooting, network deployment, and data collection activities.
- Create a variety of reports using tools such as Kibana and Grafana.
- Assist with creating technical documentation for use by Tier-2 support that addresses how to identify and resolve common operational and failure scenarios.
- Manage the deployment of certain highly complex components of the platforms, which includes the installation of the operating system, virtualization components, and installation/configuration of software running in the guest VM and/or container.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 4 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 2 years' experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 8 years' experience in a related field
- Experience working with Linux operating systems with extensive working knowledge of OS configuration, network applications, and network protocols.
- Strong knowledge of, and hands-on experience utilizing UNIX/Linux shell scripting.
- Experience utilizing Python.
- Proficient in working with SQL and Relational Database Management systems.
- Experience working with ELK stack components (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana).
- Experience working with Ansible to configure and manage devices in a large-scale network.
Preferred
- UNIX/Linux system administration : Intermediate experience with most common UNIX/Linux services and system administration functions, ranging from shell sessions to specific services (such as Syslog, Sendmail, Apache, X windows, user/group administration, DNS, SSH etc.).
- Automation: 2 years of experience working with Ansible to configure and manage devices in a large-scale network.
- TCP/IP : Good understanding and working experience with TCP/IP networks on a large scale.
- DNS : In-depth to 'near' expert level understanding.
- Python : Intermediate work experience utilizing Python to deliver solutions.
- Elastic: Good understanding and some working experience
- Grafana : Working knowledge and some working experience.
- Kibana : Working knowledge and some working experience.
