Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking an IPS Coordinator to join the Technical team for the Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
The IPS Coordinator provides support and lifecycle management for Instrumented Protection Systems (IPS) which include Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS) Independent Protection Layers (IPL), Burner Management Systems (BMS) and Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESS).
This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
As needed, assist in the developing of procedures for Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Pre-Startup Acceptance Tests (PSAT), Basic Process Control System (BPCS) testing, etc. and participate in the following,
- Develop and maintain IPS testing schedule and monitor schedule for compliance.
- Work with the SAP Specialist and IPS Specialist to create and/or modify IPS Inspection, Testing and Preventive Maintenance (ITPMs).
- Coordinate IPS testing activities working with Operations and Maintenance teams.
- Ensure IPS documentation and data integrity are maintained.
- Support training of Operations, Maintenance and Technical personnel in the IPS management process.
Responsibilities (continued)
- Support the IPS MOC and Alarm Documentation and Rationalization (AOA) processes.
- Review PHA reports and assist in development/change/removal of IPS as necessary, including developing procedures and validation.
- Maintain IPS management consistency across the site.
- Serve as gatekeeper for SIS changes and modifications.
- Track SIS failures to identify problems with equipment selection, design and frequency of testing and initiate improvement efforts as needed.
- Audit the IPS records retention system to verify it meets the requirements for IPS Lifecycle Management of Instrumented Protective Systems/RMS 5700.
- Remove and Install IPS tags on process field equipment.
- Participate in HAZOP/LOPAs, PSSRs, and MOCs.
Skills / Abilities
- Ability to read and understand design documents such as P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, etc.
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and possess good organization and time management skills.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with internal and external organizations such as operations, maintenance, engineering, plant management, and contract personnel.
- Ability to resolve conflicts with other functional groups and reach agreements with those groups to be successful.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED.
- At least 5 years of direct experience with process control/automation systems (DCS and PLC) and instrumentation in a petrochemical manufacturing facility.
- Experience with lifecycle management of instrumented protective systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Instrumentation, Electronic Engineering Technology, etc.
- Knowledge of the ANSI/ISA-84.00.01-2004 (IEC-61511 Mod) standard.
- Experience with Microsoft Access and SAP.
- Ability to read and understand PLC logic (ladder, function block, structured text) programs.
- Working knowledge of SRS documents, Logic Narratives, electrical schematics, Cause and Effect (C&Es) Drawings, etc.
- Prior experience in Ethylene or Polyethylene manufacturing processes.
