Position Summary
Standards Specialist develops basic material specifications and performs material quality assurance/quality control. Assists in the research and development of construction standards and compatible units used to design electric distribution infrastructure. Evaluates and approves manufacturers’ products for use by CPS Energy. Performs and/or maintains other administrative changes to formal/official material documentation and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies by creating and maintaining databases, documenting regulatory events, preparing required reports, and assisting with regulatory inquiries and audits.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Researches and addresses material-related issues to include failures, defects, improper application, etc.
- Performs material quality assurance/quality control to include physical investigation of failed materials in a lab or field setting.
- Researches and implements new materials requested by user areas to include implementation, testing and evaluation of materials in a lab or field setting.
- Develops new material descriptions which serve as specifications when a more formal engineered specification (developed by an Engineer) is not required.
- Performs administrative changes and/or maintenance to official material documentation. Creates and modifies material descriptions, approves manufacturer catalog numbers, recommends minimum and maximum stock levels, modifies storeroom locations, etc.
- Evaluates Vendor Requests that are submitted to the Supplier Development office within the Supply Chain.
- Researches and develops construction standards.
- Develops new material descriptions which serve as specifications when a more formal engineered specification is not required.
- Researches and implements new materials requested by user areas (provides performance based and economic evaluations, selection, application, settings, operational analysis and maintenance practices of materials and devices).
- Works with team to meet project specifications, cost control and schedule objectives.
- Interfaces with internal and external team members such as Engineers, Designers, Project Managers, Operations Management,
- Personnel and support organizations.
- Proposes, develops, modifies, leads, coordinates, creates, submits and distributes manuals, standards, procedures, benchmarking studies, material specifications, materials, Compatible Units (CU’s), Macro Units (MU’s) and Material Requests (SMR’s).
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Experience with electric distribution standards, design, operations and/or construction practices and guidelines
- Experience with SAP
- Experience with Logica ARM Work Manager Software
- Experience with databases
- Experience with graphical information systems
- Experience with the Railroad Commission of Texas regulations

Salary : $27,400 - $34,700
