What You WillDo :

The EnvironmentalSpecialist is responsible for establishing developing andimplementing the environmental health and safety (EH&S)programs at Vicinity Energy’s South Regionlocations.

The Environmental Specialistestablishes and manages programs directed toward the continuousimprovement of EH&S objectives and integrates EH&Sobjectives into plant and distribution functions.

The Environmental Specialist provides regulatoryexpertise to strategize and maximize company position withinenvironmental programs and interaction with regulatory officials.

Coordinates EH&S programs with an emphasis placed onidentification and communication of regulatory requirements tofacility management and personnel.

This isfulltime exempt position and reports to the EH&S Manager.This position is located in Baltimore MD and provides regionalsupport to company locations including Washington DC Morgantown WVand Atlanta GA and other locations as needed.

Approximately 1525%travel to regional locations and more frequent local site travelare expected.

Responsibilities :

Identifiesenvironmental risks and provides mitigation plans which areconsistent with business performance and reliability goals.

Facilitates the implementation of management systems that supportcompany goals and meet / or exceed regulatory requirements.

  • Provides regulatory support forenvironmental requirements such as Title V Air Permits NPDESPermits SWPPP Hazardous Waste Management etc.
  • Audits EH&S programimplementation. Works closely with Managers to ensure effectiveimplementation and enforcement of EH&S policies andprocedures including inspections.
  • Contributes and aids withimplementing hazardous material emergency response and contingencyplanning efforts. Coordinates facility program with responsecontractors LEPC and Government Agencies.
  • Participates and / or leads SafetyCommittee
  • Provides oversight and reviewsaccident / incident investigations. Recommends corrective actions andactions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Supports environmentalrecordkeeping and reporting program. Prepares reports forregulatory submittal. Maintains plant environmental recordsincluding permits compliance data training records etc.
  • Identifies and coordinatesenvironmental & safety training requirements. Trackstraining completion and provides updates to management.
  • Designs and implements Employeetraining programs on topics such as emergency response SPCCair / water / waste permit compliance safety inspections use ofprotective equipment confined space entry lockout tagoutrespiratory protection etc.
  • Observes and complies with allstandard safety codes and practices performs work in accordancewith recognized trade and company standards and where applicablelocal state and federal laws.
  • Assists with Green Solutions Teammeetings assist with identification of potential projectscoordinate with management and contractors to see that projects areimplemented.
  • Performs other related duties asrequired.
  • May be required to work eveningsand weekends as needed.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’sdegree in Environmental Science Occupational Safety &Health Engineering Chemistry or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 24 years’experience with safety and environmental programs in a utility ormanufacturing industry.
  • Must be familiar with FederalState and local regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and writtencommunication skills are required.
  • Requires individual with a highdegree of professionalism.
  • Requires the ability to work wellindependently and effectively with others daily. Successfulcandidate will also be detail oriented able to take direction andhandle multiple tasks prioritize work effectively and see a workproject through to completion.
  • A willingness to acquire newskills and utilize technology to streamline processes and problemsolve is essential.
  • High level of proficiency withdatabase spreadsheet email and word processing software required.Proficiency with MS Office and Windows preferred.

Experience withRedTag TK Pro and Maximo is a plus.

  • Emergency Status Designation : Essential; EH&S Incident Coordinator / Commander QualifiedIndividual alternate

PhysicalRequirements :

  • Must submit to company requiredpreemployment drug screening and physical exam. This positionrequires a valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • May be required to wearprotective clothing including protective suits respiratoryprotection gloves safety shoes safety glasses hard hat and othersas required.
  • Must be able to work internallyin the physical plant and externally on the facility’sgrounds or at satellite facilities.
  • The employee will be required towear personal protective equipment and clothing where appropriatebecause of their work around potential hazards such as loud noiseairborne particles vibration and hazardous materials.
  • This protective equipmentincludes but is not limited to safety eyewear footwear hard hatgloves hearing protection and specialized clothing whereapplicable.
  • Must be able to work in extremesof hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions.
  • Under certain conditions whileworking in the plant may be required to wear a respirator respirators are required in specified areas thereforethe employee will be issued with and trained in the proper use ofthis equipment.
  • May require repetitive stoopingbending climbing reaching and carrying; intermittent lifting andmoving up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to work from laddersscaffolds highlifts and in confined spaces.
