Job Description
-
The Product Designer performs, oversees, and directs the product design, detailing and specifications along with the product prototyping and testing of metal and fiberglass enclosures

Work with the Process Engineer at the manufacturing facility on product design, forming design, and plant capacity for any new or modified product

Assist the Product Management team for the product development stages and assist the Process Engineer for the product manufacturing process integration

Support the sales and customer service team in the pre-sale and post-sale processes
Essential Duties
-
New product development, including project management and design coordination with product management team
-
Capitalization of tooling for new products
-
Establishing material standards and specifications
-
Product design calculations using finite element analysis
-
Developing customer details and specifications
-
Reviewing accuracy of product designs and drawings performed by drafting team

Providing technical support and expertise for quality standards and certifications
-
Setting goals and objectives for internal and external customer projects
-
3rd party testing coordination and prototyping
-
Creating SmartSKU standards and naming conventions

Coordinating manufacturing processes with plant Process Engineer

Attending job sites and customer meetings as needed to provide technical support to sales

Generating goals and expectations to communicate weekly with key customers related to project status and backlog
Required Training or Certifications
-
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering
-
EIT or PE certification
-
Experience with metal or fiberglass
-
Experience in finite element analysis software tools
-
Experience in manufacturing processes and project management
-
Experience with 3D software (Autodesk Inventor knowledge is an asset)
Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands
-
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, strength to lift and carry files and products weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Must be able to work in plant production environment as needed to validate designs, review progress on special projects, perform job safety analysis, and other tasks which will result in some exposure to noise, dust, cold, etc.

Must be able to wear PPE when applicable and follow all safety measures

Overnight/Business Travel approximately 20% within the US, Canada, and Mexico
