Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Director, Medical Imaging, the Radiologic Technologist is an active member of the Medical Imaging team that delivers professional medical imagining services consistent with the strategic vision, goals, philosophy and direction of the department and CRHS. The Radiologic Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level with minimal to no supervision from the Director.  This position maintains the qualifications to provide care for patients across the full spectrum of age groups: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Education:
Requires an Associate’s degree in Radiology or Radiologic Sciences or the successful completion of a technical or vocational certificate
  • Experience:
This is an entry-level job that requires up to two years of work-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Licensure, Registrations& Certifications:
Requires current valid license, and/or registration or certification as an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Maintains a current certificate in Basic Life Support (If BLS verification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)
 
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the health care team members to ensure the patient's well-being as evidenced by staff/client feedback.
  • Conducts basic radiologic studies using C-arm and portable equipment within the department, ED, or in surgery suites.
  • Employs the use of sterile techniques and protocol during surgical procedures.
  • Processes and demonstrates a detailed knowledge of positioning and anatomy to facilitate the desired views as per physician orders.
  • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians and staff in all departments of the organization.
  • Operates within the A.L.A.R.A radiation standards of care.
  • Obtains required billing data and account registration ensuring that the ordered procedure is appropriate for the diagnosis on the requisition.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors and employees through identifying, correcting and reporting health and safety hazards.
  • Ensures the use of all necessary protective and monitoring equipment (badges, aprons, etc.) for self and others throughout the work shift.
  • Evaluates Medical Imaging quality, satisfaction and regulatory standards to ensure compliance.
  • Works to continually identify new approaches that improve the quality and timeliness of Medical Imaging services provided.
  • Uses appropriate IV Sterile techniques in the administration of diagnostic contrast media and is knowledgeable about signs and symptoms of reactions.
  • Follows all department policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all federal and state laws, regulations and JCAHO requirements.
  • Participates in staff development programs, CEU classes as mandated by ARRT, and regularly scheduled in-service programs.
  • Mentors new employees as requested.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
 
Standards of Performance:
  • Demonstrates proficiency in conducting ordered radiologic studies as measured by peers, patients and supervisor observation.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively, and asking questions when clarification is needed.
  • Confirms billing information and account registration ensuring that the ordered procedure is appropriate for the diagnosis on the requisition.
  • Investigates and follows through on unusual orders or requests for service or information.
  • Provides clinical and technical support for staff members, as evidenced by Director, Diagnostic Imaging, physician and staff feedback.
  • Utilizes necessary protective and monitoring equipment (badges, aprons, etc.) for self and others as measured by reports and observation.
  • Actively service as a member of the healthcare team by attending a minimum of 80% of the unit staff meetings and employee forums, and all mandated in-service. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate reliability by arriving to work on time and taking breaks in expected time frames as per CRHS policy.
  • Practices effective infection control procedures such as washing hands before and after patients as measured by staff and patient observation.
  • Adheres to CRHS’s Standards of Behavior as measured by peers, patients, and supervisor observation.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of procedures and interpretations of all Medical Imaging-related federal, state & JCAHO laws and regulations.
