What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Technician position at CRRC MA?

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Ideal Candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, or overhauling of railroad rolling stock and mass transit rail cars.

  • Identify, analyze, and document defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in software program functions.
  • Verify proper hook up of cables completed by other Technicians prior to energizing.
  • Troubleshoot to the component level on sub-assembly faults and failures which includes mechanical/equipment. problems.
  • Repair, when necessary, minor product deficiencies.
  • Build test fixtures and perform bench measurements.
  • Assist assembly with questions and pretest hardware and wiring checks.
  • Maintenance such as cleaning, checking performance, as per equipment specifications.
  • Conduct special testing when necessary for engineering.
  • Assist with new personnel training.
  • Ability to design test fixtures and perform bench measurements.
  • Test vehicle systems following established test procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree in Electronics is highly preferred.
  • Military electronic training, with a focus in avionics, and/or rail vehicle experience is also highly preferred.
  • Strong academic background involving mechanical and electrical disciplines drawings and schematics;
  • Mechanical applications skills are required; use of hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)
  • Experience with or knowledge with High voltage up to 700V DC
  • Proficient use of electrical test equipment. (Voltmeter, Oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills related to technical issues; strong interpersonal skills needed for working with all levels of internal and external organizations.
  • Experience in creating test plans and test specifications for safety critical systems
  • Familiarity with test techniques recommended by the railway safety standards is an asset (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129).
  • Physical Requirements:
  • While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Overtime may be necessary as work load’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Job will generally be performed at a production facility or rail yard site and may require travel. Conditions will vary at each location.
  • May be assigned to work at a Client’s office, facility or site for extended periods of time. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply. When performing outside CRRC MA’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by CRRC MA and/or Client as required.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, or local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, or local standards.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.60 - $36.00 per hour
