Technician assembles and disassembles test samples and may make modifications to set-ups and troubleshoot malfunctions. Provides ongoing feedback to Manager and Certifier regarding suggested modifications to apparatus and/or equipment being tested. May assist in work outside the laboratories as required. Processes paperwork projects where no engineering is involved.

Job Summary
Conducts a wide range of test procedures, accurately obtains and records data, interprets results, and performs R&D projects. Technician assembles and disassembles test samples and may make modifications to set-ups and troubleshoot malfunctions. Provides ongoing feedback to Manager and Certifier regarding suggested modifications to apparatus and/or equipment being tested. May assist in work outside the laboratories as required. Processes paperwork projects where no engineering is involved.
Responsibilities
- Assumes total responsibility for the completion of assigned projects within negotiated time and cost schedules.
- Conducts a wide range of test procedures on sample equipment to the applicable standards and interprets results of the test. Determines or works with Certifier confirming which tests are required; the order in which to perform tests and the number of samples required. Performs tests, compiles data and summarizes test results into test reports and checklists. Determines whether product passes or fails subject to review by Certifier.
- Assembles and disassembles test samples, hooks-up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing; operates most laboratory test equipment without supervision.
- Records technical data, draft reports, writes product descriptions. Performs mathematical calculations required to summarize test results. Relates test results to product specifications. Acts as a liaison with other departments as required by supervisor.
- Notes and records substandard features of products which may appear before or during the tests and refer them to PGM, Lab Manager or Certifier.
- Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carry out assigned laboratory clean-up duties
- Responsible for follow-up for any non-conformances as a result of calibration, with guidance from supervisor.
- Interacts with jobholder / certifier to plan activities, exchange information, review and approve lab reports and certification records.
- May make field trips and assist in work outside the laboratories as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Processes paperwork jobs from opening to distribution where no engineering is involved (i.e. alternative construction, change of records and multiple listings) if required
- Must have high school diploma or GED
- 2 years of HazLoc and/or CSA lab related experience preferred.
- Practical knowledge of working with test and measurement instruments and equipment, such as: power supplies, multi meters, power analyzers ; operation of machines such as drills, table saw, band saw.
- Must be team-oriented with good interpersonal skills and abilities to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Must be self-motivated and client-service oriented
- Demonstrated systematic problem-solving ability
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, follow-through and evaluate assigned functions and duties
- Demonstrated ability to work with some supervision. Good communication skills and ability to provide feedback to less experienced personnel when needed
- Strong organizational, time and project management skills to complete job tasks independently and in a time-efficient manner
- Computer proficiency (Word processing, Microsoft Word, Excel); keyboarding
- Use of various lab equipment, instruments and tools
