CSBS Research and Analytics Group is a team of data enthusiasts enabling state financial regulators to make smarter decisions by providing them tools and services in data visualization, risk and predictive modeling, cognitive analytics, and economic analysis. Our objective is to provide innovative solutions to the state regulators, to help them keep our financial systems safe, to promote local economic growth, and to protect financial consumers.
As an Analyst at CSBS, you'll play a crucial role in supporting the data-driven decision-making processes of regulators and internal partners focused on the regulation and supervision of financial institutions. Your responsibilities will include gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data from various sources to provide meaningful, actionable insights and recommendations. You will work both independently and in collaboration with peers and as part of cross-functional teams to develop insights and analytical products such as reports, dashboards, and interactive visualizations. You will help field questions, prepare training materials, and participate in training events for the analytical products we develop. Additionally, you’ll assist in ongoing data management and data quality initiatives to ensure our data is accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to understand the “big picture” while maintaining a thorough attention to detail, be comfortable communicating your analysis to technical and non-technical audiences, and have the technical proficiency and adaptability to engage a wide variety of problems.

Data Collection & Gathering: Collecting and integrating data from various sources, including databases, spreadsheets, files, and external sources.
Data Analysis: Using analytical tools and techniques to explore, cleanse, and profile data for the generation of insights (e.g. trends, outliers, etc.).
Reporting: Creating reports, dashboards, and visualizations to effectively communicate findings to our stakeholders.
Problem Solving: Applying analytical skills to identify workable recommendations to solve business problems.
Operational Support: Ensuring our analytical products are available; answering support questions regarding the use of our reports, dashboards, etc.
Training: Creating training resources to ensure end-users can make effective use of our analytical products.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
1- 3 years of experience.
A bachelor’s degree, preferably with a quantitative focus (economics, computer science, data science, engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience in data analysis.
Prior experience in the banking or financial industry, regulatory agency (national or state), trade association, or in a capacity to analyze and assess federal/state bank procedures, regulations, and statutes, is a plus but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and/or interest in current financial and banking issues.
Knowledge of microeconomic and macroeconomic principles is a plus.
Knowledge and/or skills in data engineering or data science subject areas, such as data profiling, data warehousing, ETL, dimensional modeling, business intelligence, econometrics and statistical modeling, text analytics and natural language processing, clustering, and machine learning, etc.
Ability to utilize technologies generally used in analytics and data science projects such as Python, R, MicroStrategy or other BI tools, Pentaho, AWS, Oracle, or Redshift with the ability to learn new technologies, processes, and applications, quickly.
Ability to identify underlying problems and devise appropriate analytical solutions to tackle them. Ability to synthesize the essential and relevant elements out of large sets of data and display them in a user-friendly manner.
Ability to translate data requests into digestible output and clearly communicate the significance of leading indicators.
Ability to perform statistical analysis.
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate ideas in written and visual formats.
Ability to synthesize complex and technical material for consumption by audiences with little to no technical background.
