Description
Physician Outpatient Coding Team Lead:
- Serves as a Team Leader to the Outpatient coding staff and the point of contact to assist providers with coding
- Conducts education sessions to address performance issues or bring new information to the coding team
- Performs concurrent documentation reviews and completes medical record coding for claim submission
- Monitors all Professional Coding work queues with motivation to meet or exceed the monthly DNFB goal
- Communicates with office, billing, and coding staff to facilitate complete and accurate medical record documentation, in order to obtain the maximum appropriate reimbursement
- Takes ownership to resolve denials and appeals as related to clinical documentation
- Works in a collaborative fashion with the office, billing, and coding staff to improve overall processes
- Conducts periodic internal provider audits and coordinates external audit review dissemination
- Maintains accurate records of review activities to comply with departmental and regulatory agency intervals
- Tracks and publishes CEU opportunities for the Outpatient coding staff
- Strives to aid Outpatient coding staff with professional development
- Upholds and promotes patient safety and quality
Qualifications
Education:
Currently holding two credentials: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS), Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
Experience:
Three or more years professional coding and/or medical record coding experience required
Additional Skills / Abilities:
Analytical skills, strong computer skills, ability to multi-task, detail oriented, good written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, working knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacology
