Position Title: CIF Team Leader
Reports To: CIF Facilitator
Location: Pendleton, Indiana (Pendleton Correctional Facility)
Although the position is working within the prison you will not act as a correctional officer.
Overview:
This position is responsible for coordinating work team(s) to ensure success in attaining stated objectives.
Incumbent ensures the resources, skills, training, materials and information are available to the team to safely receive, inspect, manufacture, package, and/or ship a quality product which meets customer expectations and schedules.
Job Responsibilities:
- Practice and adhere to all safety requirements. Ensure that all team members and visitors know and follow the safety rules and procedures while in the area.
- Perform daily safety walks and checks in your area, including PPE checks for employees, ensure team members’ perform standardized work, and review equipment racks.
- Clearly understand the operation and safety hazards of each piece of equipment in your area.
- Train all Team members on the safety and quality procedures and standards, and standardized work procedures. Train new Team members on existing and new process changes as necessary and maintain training log.
- Carry out daily checks to ensure the equipment and machines are in safe working order, and Operators are performing work in an ergonomically safe manner.
- Take corrective action on all unsafe work conditions, including advising on how to improve ergonomically unsafe conditions.
- Complete and forward all close call and incident reports to Safety Coordinator within 24 hours.
Communicate all safety problems and concerns with the team.
- Determine the workplace organizational standards, and ensure that the 5-Ss are being followed by the team per posted work assignments.
- Communicate quality alerts, concerns, and issues to team and develop short and long term corrective actions using 8D process.
- Assist in ensuring compliance to ISO 9001: 2008 and communicate responsibilities to team members
- Complete first and last piece check lists each day.
- Assist Quality Department in the development of Work Instructions for all processes within the team. Post and communicate changes as necessary.
- After a problem has occurred (safety, quality and production), perform a root cause analysis to prevent future problems using appropriate corrective action process (8D, Internal Audit and lean manufacturing).
Create visual items concerned with quality standards.
- Personally verify that a defect listed as “repaired” by a Team Member was properly repaired, and implement short-term and long-term corrective actions for this issue.
- Lead continuous improvement activities to continue to eliminate waste. Support the process and productivity improvements. Chart and communicate improvements to the team.
- Encourage Team member suggestions on improving safety, quality and production within the team, and keep them informed on the status of their suggestions.
- Know and be able to measure all quality standards which relate to the team process.

- Maintain APS and hour-by-hour boards and keep all information on the board fully updated, including post quality tracking charts and sheets, audit and maintain safety board and flexibility charts.
- Allocate manpower according to the situation and Team Member skills. Cover for absenteeism where needed within the team, group, or department.
- Perform equipment, fork lift, machine and tooling checks for shift start-up, and when necessary report any abnormalities to the Facilitator.
- Identify and support all throughput improvement opportunities; and maximize the value-added cycle time on jobs.
- Know the goals of crib material spend and manpower, and establish a baseline to control the costs through waste elimination.
- Ensure job rotation among Team Members is fair and balanced
- Communicate with Team members, and provide regular feedback on performance, including goals and objectives of Team. Regularly communicate with Facilitators and other teams to get information needed to prevent and resolve production problems.
- Adhere to facility rules, restrictions and guidelines.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with one (1) or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required, with the demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills in motivating, problem solving, counseling, evaluating, and training team members.
- The Plainfield facility has the right to deem a person qualified for a position if that person has had one or more years of experience in the position or similar position.

Pay: $23.50 - $26.00 per hour
