POSITION DETAILS
Queensborough Community College seeks an experienced individual who is able to work as part of a successful team of professionals serving a diverse student population in an urban setting. The successful candidate will provide a supportive environment and ensure that strong relationships are fostered with the college community.
ASAP and ACE programs help students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP|ACE program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Financial incentives include tuition waivers for financial aid eligible students, yearly textbook vouchers, and monthly MetroCards for all students. Reporting to the ASAP Associate Director for Data Management and Program Strategy, the Program Specialist for Student Engagement will develop and manage broad student engagement efforts. S/he will work closely with campus student support areas and academic departments on initiatives and interventions that support and promote student success. In addition to the duties outlined in the CUNY Title Overview, the Program Specialist will:
-Develop and administer an array of activities for New Student Onboarding
-Collaborate with Campus Academic Support areas to establish partnerships with ASAP program
-Collaborate with all ASAP areas, including advisement, career and recruitment, to develop and implement engagement strategies to support student success and retention.
-Document and track student participation in engagement efforts, in relation to student retention
-Connect new and continuing ASAP students to campus resources, co-curricular, and engagement opportunities.
-Develop and facilitate student success and community/campus resource workshops on various topics
-Serve as the primary coach for the peer mentoring program.
-Coordinate with special initiatives (e.g., STEM; Foster Care Initiative; Research Scholars) to connect students to experiential learning and/or leadership opportunities.
-Monitor and provide follow up to student communications for exited, re-engaged and probation populations.
-Assist with program events and activities planning.
-Provide advising and mentoring support to a cohort of students as needed (up to 50 students).
Evening and weekend hours may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in an appropriate discipline and four years related experience.

-Experience in higher education or working with college students strongly preferred
-Strong understanding of the educational needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds
-Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
-Experience developing, organizing, and delivering presentations to students
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills
-Experience providing coaching, mentoring
-Demonstrated knowledge of equitable and inclusive practices to support and engage students
-Knowledge of various students’ engagement and retention strategies in higher education
-Demonstrated knowledge of data-tracking and generating reports

The ASAP Advisor is a member of an integrated College team providing individual academic, career and related support to an assigned group of college students as they progress through the program.
Delivers comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion
Conducts workshops and group advisement on topics of relevance and interest
Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services
Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success
Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs
Supports annual recruitment of students
Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff
Performs related duties as assigned.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022
City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the Emblem Health HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period.
An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to Emblem Health. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by Emblem Health before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the Emblem Health website.
