**FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT**
Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, City University of New York, seeks an accomplished practitioner-educator with expertise in Biology to serve on the faculty and support the culture of teaching and learning across the institution.
This full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position will begin in Fall 2023. For academic year 2023-24, full-time faculty are required to teach a 24-hour course load across Guttman's two 12-week Fall and Spring semesters and 6-week Fall II intersession (visit the Guttman Academic calendar online for dates). Faculty are expected to teach in person although some courses are taught online or in a hybrid format. Faculty on tenure-track appointments receive reassigned time to pursue scholarship. A record of scholarly production, whether in the faculty member's disciplinary field or in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, is required for tenure and promotion.
For this position, the successful candidate will have teaching expertise in Biology, or a related field for teaching general biology courses within the Science & Math track of the College's Liberal Arts & Sciences program of study and courses in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, genetics and biological chemistry.
Guttman faculty are also active members of the College Community through participation in collaborative work initiatives that advance the goals of the College.

**VACCINE MANDATE:**
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biology/sciences education or a related field (awarded by start of fall, 2023-2024 academic year); and at least two years of successful teaching experience in a college setting (full-time or part-time) are required. Due to the interdisciplinary organization of the college, the ability to collaborate well with others in academics, student services, and administration is expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of two years documented successful teaching in a community college in one or more of the following areas: general biology, human biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, genetics and biological chemistry.
Experience with pedagogical practices central to Guttman's educational model such as learning communities, undergraduate research, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, experiential education, embedded remediation, civic engagement, electronic portfolios, universal design principles, and peer mentoring
A practice of reflective thinking about teaching of science
Willingness to conduct research with students in and outside of classroom environments
Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective instructional strategies and openness to adopting new practices
Ability to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment
Active, student-centered pedagogy and significant student mentoring experience
Teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and educational backgrounds
An understanding of community college students' assets and challenges
Use of current technology as it supports teaching and learning
Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, and written and verbal skills

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
