About Custom Cones USA:
We are a national distributor of cannabis packaging supplies and machine equipment that works with small and large farms, dispensaries, and brands all across the United States and Canada on their pre-rolls, packaging, and machinery. From helping small farms brand and launch their first product, to established brands scaling and expanding states, to even partnering with celebrity brands on unique products. Over the last year we have successfully launched consumer brands under the brand DaySavers. We’ve grown from 6 employees to 36 employees over the last couple of years and are looking for an experienced HR manager that loves start-ups and building wildly successful teams.
IN-OFFICE POSITION - RENTON - WE ARE A FAST-PACED AND HANDS-ON START-UP
As the first HR Manager at Custom Cones USA, your main task will be to establish the fundamental processes and structures of our HR department. You'll assist management in recruiting, hiring, and interviewing for various roles across departments. You will spearhead a new and improved process for employee onboarding, partnering with team managers to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining and improving our HR policies, programs, and practices, implementing a 360-degree feedback system for continuous employee input, and managing all aspects of the employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding. Additionally, you'll develop clear pay bands and job levels to ensure fair compensation and career advancement. Your leadership will be crucial in crafting HR policies and procedures that reflect our company values and comply with legal standards.
You will be the first HR Manager in a young and fast-growing company - we are the 8th fastest growing company in WA according to Inc Magazine and the 63rd fastest growing company in NA according to the Financial Times. You must have previous start-up experience and experience building and growing brand new teams. Leading hiring and recruitment will be a major part of your role, so strong experience in hiring/training is required. Experience in bookkeeping, payroll, and general finance is strongly preferred.

What you will be doing:
- You will be the first HR Manager and will need to build out core processes and foundation
- Assisting management with recruiting, hiring, and interviewing for multiple roles across departments
- Support the full scope of Human Resource responsibilities and lead the organization on strategic initiatives
- Maintain and enhance the organization's human resource by planning, implementing and evaluating human resources policies, programs and practices
- Implement a 360 degree feedback process to continually gather feedback and create action plans to address all employee feedback
- Manage and partner with management on all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management and offboarding process
- Develop pay bands and job levels, ensuring career progression and fair pay
- Lead the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that align with company values and legal requirements
- This includes building out policies, documents, and an employee handbook, ensuring ongoing compliance and making updates as needed
- Assist in running payroll processes and interfacing with external teams
- Streamline HR processes and ensure efficient management of employee data
- Oversee employee leave policies (parental, disability, sick, bereavement) to ensure alignment with company policies and industry standards
- Conduct regular analysis of HR data to ensure that our benefits offerings are competitive and aligned with industry best practices
- Stay informed about state and federal employer compliance and regulations, proactively implementing necessary changes and updates
- Establish and maintain secure document organization and storage best practices for sensitive HR information
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Proven experience (5 years) in a Human Resources role, with a strong background in HR Generalist functions
- Experience being the first HR hire and growing a team within a start-up
- Solid understanding of employment laws, regulations, and best practices
- Experience with young founders in fast-growing companies and teams
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships at all levels of the organization
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities, with a solutions-oriented approach
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
