Overview
Responsible for charging/coding, billing and reimbursement for outpatient/inpatient radiology services in general. Work with the department division lead technologists, managers, revenue integrity team, professional coders, and charge master coordinator to design the charge capture interface and charge description master techniques and associated coding and billing for radiology services. Radiology Charge Specialist role is a hybrid model working 2-3 days on site and remainder fully remote.
Responsibilities
Responsible for charging/coding, billing and reimbursement for inpatient/outpatient services in general.
Work with the department divisions to ensure accurate, and timely reimbursement.
Assist the radiology, revenue integrity, and professional services coding teams to resolve outstanding charges. Work closely with CVPH and UVMHN Network Revenue teams to ensure accurate charge capture.
Stay current on the complex rules for billing, coding, compliance, and reimbursement in the radiology.
Proficiency charging/coding various procedures and applying appropriate diagnoses codes, modifiers and CPT’s for both Professional and Technical Component Coding/Billing.
Maintain current working knowledge of related APCs, bundling under APCs, and various payment processes.
Provide accurate answers to Physicians, Management and Administration regarding coding and or billing questions. Provide education and feedback to providers and service line management and staff.
Ensure all services documented in the procedure report are charged/coded with appropriate CPT codes and Modifiers for both Professional and Technical components in a timely manner. When services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately, seek to attain proper documentation. Achieve and maintain a high level of productivity and accuracy.
Review medical documentation. Review and asses claim Accuracy. Ensure services are billed accurately in compliance with payer rules and DHHS regulations.
Performing miscellaneous functions including: scheduling radiology examinations, monitoring work queues, calling results to ordering providers, contacting patients to reschedule appointments, other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma required.
2 years or more coding experience. Radiology coding experience preferred.
CPC (Certified Professional Coder) required.
Working knowledge of ICD-10CM and CPT coding guidelines and conventions.
Understanding of Medical Necessity for Medicare targeted tests.
Work requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to interact with the medical staff, co-workers and staff from other departments.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
