POSITION SUMMARY
Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and repair both minor and major on trucks, trailers, and vehicle in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner. Uses a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish assigned maintenance functions and assist other Mechanics as required. Completes and documents all repairs and preventive maintenance according to Department of Transportation guidelines. Coordinates repairs and preventive maintenance schedules through Shop Supervisor to minimize the impact to CRCT’s fleet operations. Practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a safe and clean working environment for self and others.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Degree from vo-tech or specialized training in diesel or auto mechanics field preferred
- CDL with Hazmat Endorsement preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Five years’ experience or Vo-tech training and four years’ performing preventive maintenance, service, inspections, repair and tire work on class 8 tractor and semi-trailers. Experience and skill level to include the working knowledge of: Suspension, chassis, steering, 5th wheel, drive lines, transmission, air brakes, wheel bearing and seal, internal and external engine component, exhaust after treatment systems, electrical system, interior cab components, AC repairs, hydraulic “wet kit” components, and computer engine diagnostic.
- In-depth ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
- Ability to disassemble and replace components such as brake shoes, brake cams, slack adjusters, drums, suspensions parts, springs, airbags, 5th wheels, wheel bearings, seals, clutches, starters, alternator, fan hubs, water pumps, fan belts, transmissions, third member, product pumps, AC components, internal and external engine components and diagnose after treatment and check engine light problems
- Must have solid knowledge of extensive mechanical repair and trouble-shooting techniques associates with Class 8 tractor and semi-trailers.
- Must be competent with a PC and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation rules and regulations.
- Driving tractor trailers units in and out of shop and around the terminal yard
- Knowledge of Paccar, Cummins, Bendix, and Eaton Software preferred.
- Must supply own hand tools per minimum required list with willingness to purchase additional tools
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Inspection, service, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment for a safe operation and compliance with Department of Transportation rule and regulations
- Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
- Mentor and assist other mechanics as needed.
- Document all repairs for DOT required maintenance files.
- Help maintain clean safe working environment in truck shop.
- Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs.
- Must be willing to work out of a service truck as needed for road calls.
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed, flexible shifts, to include weekends, after hours.
- Test, calibrate, and document testing of safety equipment in truck shop.
- Assist with training of employees with operation and safety items on trucks and trailers
- Regularly communicate with Supervisor work progress, concerns, and questions
