Opportunity Awaits on the beautiful Island of Hawaii... Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel currently has an opening for a talented Full Time Training and Cultural Manager to share the aloha spirit and strive to create a memorable guest experience.

Brief Summary of Job: Responsible for training and cultural education and consultation to team members.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the job include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all training completion of all team members and training compliance with Pacifica Hotels and Marriott brand standards training. Pacifica Hotels training includes but is not limited to Pacifica Hotels University (PHU) trainings, monthly safety training, Know Be4 training, Ethos Service Training, and Brainer trainings. Marriott brand standards training includes but is not limited to Shaping Service, Human Trafficking, TIPS: Alcohol Server Training, Serv Safe, Commitment to Clean, Connect U, Loyalty, mHUB Introductory Training,  Services for Guests with Disabilities, and Stayover Clean.
  • Organize and ensure the timely completion of team member training requirements as outlined on Marriott Global Source and Pacifica Hotel communications.
  • Track training completion and recertification requirements. Follow up on outstanding trainings and certification to ensure compliance.
  • Assist employees in completing required brand and company training, including assistance with logging into Marriott Global Source with Marriott EID.
  • Maintain up-to-date accurate required training and certification records as required by Marriott Brand Standards Audit, Pacifica Hotels, and state and county requirements, including but not limited to Liquor Blue Cards, Guard Cards, CPR/AED/ First Aid, Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS), and Serv Safe.
  • Upload training certificates and certifications into employee files via HRIS.
  • Ensure safety program and training are in place for new hires and current Team Members. Ensure safety meetings are occurring monthly. Upload monthly safety training records on Share drive.
  • Provides coordination and facilitation of training events, including preparing in-house meeting room requests.
  • Drives attendance of training programs by all team members, reaching near or at 100% participation. Follows up with managers to ensure team members are scheduled and attend training sessions.
  • Facilitate professional development, training, and certification activities for all team members.
  • Preserving the Hawaiian culture and traditions of the Island of Hawaii/ Hawai'i through education and training of team members.
  • Educates team members on the Hawaiian language and culture. Infuses Hawaiian language and cultural knowledge into existing training opportunities and initiatives.
  • Develops comprehensive cultural/educational training, including but not limited to basic Hawaiian language.
  • Coordinates with managers and subject matter experts to identify skill/knowledge gaps and identify training needs, develops training courses, curriculum, or materials, and delivers training sessions. Makes recommendations to leaders of available Pacifica Hotels University (PHU) and Marriott training tools to drive team members performance.
  • Partners with cultural practitioners in the Native Hawaiian community to provide guidance and recommendations to the Steering Committee, as needed.
  • In collaboration with Sales team, provides support in the planning and execution of cultural experiences and events.
  • Periodically reviews the correct and appropriate use of Hawaiian language, artwork etc. throughout the resort.
  • Oversight and management of employee cafeteria to infuse Hawaiian culture and sense of place in this team member gathering area, including menu recommendations. Collaborates with Culinary and Housekeeping for continued cleanliness.
  • Engage, align, and inspire team members while promoting the company’s vision and business strategy
  • Assist the Director of People Services and People Services Coordinator in facilitating team member events, recognition programs, wellness programs to promote a positive Team Member experience.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure cultural sensitivity.

Knowledge/Education/Experience:
• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in developing, leading, and/or managing team member centered training programs. Experience in a branded resort preferred.
• Experience in designing training curriculum and conducting stand-up training.
• Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy in using MS Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.• Intermediate Hawaiian language speaking skills required.
• Strong knowledge of Hawai’ian history and culture required.
• Professionalism and confidentiality are essential, with a strong commitment to providing outstanding guest service.

Skills/Abilities/Other Requirements: English speaking or bilingual. Ability to make timely, effective decisions. Ability to prioritize, organize and delegate work assignments. Ability to maintain good team member relations. Ability to develop and maintain effective guest relations.  Ability to provide legible written communications. Strong attention to detail.  Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain comprehensive and cohesive records. Dependable.
