The Director of Market Development is a unique opportunity at Cypress to envision, grow, and support a talented team through the Go to Market cycle in a Product-Led Growth motion. Cypress' stage, size, and trajectory necessitate a Director who can balance the vision and focus needed to drive success with the empathy, emotional intelligence, and coaching needed to nurture and maintain MDR talent.
Reporting to the VP of Sales and Success, you'll be an important contributor providing continuous and constructive coaching for our MDRs, as well as spearheading recruiting and on-boarding efforts. You are someone with experience driving and delivering results as well as building and developing MDRs to become AEs. Our ideal hire is also someone who incorporates empathy in a hands-on style of leadership. This individual will take the primary leadership role in building and scaling a world class team to support.
The Director of Market Development position requires an innovative mindset and a strong desire to deliver a high-quality pipeline while continuing to build upon and lead a high performing market development team. Responsibilities:
- Develop the MDR portion of the Go to Market (GTM) plan. Plan definition includes evaluation of the lead qualification process, designing engaging and personalized outreach messaging to our customers, as well as gaining in-depth product knowledge in order to better inform our customers
- Work cross-functionally with RevOps, Enablement, Customer Success and Sales teams to ensure cohesive and consistent best practices
- Recruit, coach and lead a team of market development representatives
- Build market development program and role definitions to encourage promotion from MDR to AE
- Implement new processes and tools to impact productivity and efficiency of the team and bolster MDR skills
- Implement and lead the management cadence of the organization across the key activities, metrics and outcomes required to drive consistent and predictable performance.
- Achieve quarterly pipeline generation targets and accurately forecast quarterly pipeline metrics.
- Share and address client prospect feedback to the marketing, sales and product teams for continuous improvement of our products and solutions.
Qualifications:
To be successful you should have 2 years of experience leading the sales development function in SaaS. You should have experience working in a start-up environment and demonstrate the following:
- Experience hiring, training, and coaching (minimum of 5 on the team).
- Experience scaling a top performing team by recruiting and developing Market Development Representatives (MDRs) to become sales AE.
- Metrics and data-driven, with a history of performing above team quota.
- A passion for training and developing a team.
- Experience building teams to do outbound prospecting, inbound lead qualification and leveraging product usage data to drive SQL’s
Experience:
- Leadership: previous experience in a Market or Sales Development leadership role demonstrating resilience, compassion, inclusion, and self-awareness preferably during early growth stages of a company where the team and business is in create and build mode.
- People Management: strong, intentional, and inclusive people management, managing Sales professionals from diverse backgrounds.
- Hiring: Growing and hiring teams directly through equitable, established and thoughtful hiring practices.
- Product-led Growth: GTM motions with a PLG lens take on a different cadence, interaction, and strategy, having worked at a Product-led growth company would give you fantastic analogous experience.
- Customer/User: Compassion and empathy, paired with experience for developer/technical users and customers, and developer personas.
