What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Police Officer position at D.C. United?

POSITION SUMMARY:

D.C. Soccer, LLC is seeking Special Police Officers (SPOs) across all shifts to provide 24-hour coverage at Audi Field, Segra Field, the United Performance Center, and the FanDuel Sportsbook at Audi Field (collectively “Venues”). The SPO will be a key contributor to the security operations team on a daily basis and in the event of a crisis that would disrupt the continuity of the organization’s safe and secure business operations. This could include, but is not limited to, natural disasters, workplace violence, facility emergencies, unruly patrons, fire and issues of serious injury or illness. SPO positions require heavy use of computer operating systems, including Microsoft and Avigilon Control Center 7, among other systems. This position requires specialized training and physical conditioning. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices, and procedures. SPO schedules are open to first, second, and third shifts; depending on scheduling needs SPOs may be temporarily assigned to different shifts outside of their preferred arrangement.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that the Venues are provided with high-quality security service to protect people and property
  • Communicates effectively with the security and surveillance teams between the Venues
  • Answers phones, greets guests and employees
  • Monitors and operates facility computers systems regularly, as assigned
  • Remains flexible to ever changing environment; adapts well to different situations
  • Reports safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances both verbally and in writing
  • Handles security issues or emergency situations appropriately. Contacts Emergency Services, such as EMT, Fire Dept., etc.
  • Fully embraces security/safety training programs to enhance their ability to advance in their careers
  • Participates in industry specific security/safety training programs
  • Patrolling premises regularly to maintain order and establish presence
  • Monitoring and authorizing entrance of vehicles or people on the property
  • Removing wrongdoers or trespassers from the premises
  • Secure all exits, doors, and windows after end of operations
  • Provide excellent guest service to guests and employees and resolve complaints and issues involving both guests and employees
  • Perform gaming drops/transactions, including carrying drop boxes
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities such as property damage, theft, guest or employee accidents, or unusual occurrences
  • Act as a dispatcher to relay information, messages and/or emergencies to or from appropriate personnel using telephones or two-way radios
  • Act as a first responder in emergency situations and render appropriate first aid to injured persons and following established protocol for reporting injuries
  • Assist in emergency situations by securing the scene to prevent further loss or damage, advise personnel of threats and potential threats, summon emergency responders to the incident, and initiate and conduct evacuation procedures
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of all assigned equipment
  • Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, and rotating shifts
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable laws pertaining to the gaming industry
  • Warns violators of hours, gaming rule infractions and drinking violations
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must be accredited with SOMB
  • Previous security, military, or law enforcement experience preferred
  • Must be age 21 or older and qualify for a gaming license
  • Must have no felony convictions
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting
  • Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
  • As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
  • As a condition of continued employment, employee must always maintain current active status of all required license(s), and must always carry the license(s) while on duty
  • Intermediate computer skills to utilize innovative, wireless technology at Venues
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Ability to handle both common and crisis situations at the Venues, calmly and efficiently
  • Read, understand, and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving, and receiving instructions, using phones
  • Trained in First Aid/CPR
  • Required to successfully attend and pass all recurring mandatory legal, defensive tactics, first aid, CPR/AED training/drill as a condition of employment
  • Have the ability to write incident reports and to effectively present information in a one-on-one or small group situation to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Job requires employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue. May work at heights. Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/downstairs. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
