Job Description
D.M. Bowman Logistics is seeking an experienced and proven candidate to join our team in our Logistics operation as our Warehouse Lead/Supervisor! Our company is a regional Transportation and Logistics Company founded in 1959, and to this day remains financially sound and continues to focus our efforts on developing long-term mutually beneficial relationships based upon comprehensive logistics solutions.
The Logistics Manager is responsible for the day to day operations and management of the warehouse/distribution and logistics operation.
This position is a full-time opportunity working at our operation located in Hagerstown, MD. This position will report to the Warehouse Manager.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Insure all policies and procedures are followed daily
- Monitor productivity with revenues to insure proper staffing
- Provide training where needed at all levels within the warehouse group
- Be aware of OSHA regulations as it applies to warehouse operations
- Be mindful of the costs of operation so excesses and irregularities are addressed
- Work with customers on all issues in a professional and timely manner
- Maintain all facilities and equipment to be in a safe and operable condition
- Be creative in brainstorming on new/existing methodologies and processes in regards to productivity, staffing, inventory management, facility utilization, etc.
- Insure all disciplinary action is in accordance with state and federal laws
- Maintain invoicing accuracy to insure customer satisfaction
- Listen & communicate with all warehouse employees on a regular basis, any company news and/or policy changes
- Maintain inventory accuracy within current customer base and have the knowledge to research and correct any inventory errors
- Perform assigned duties to meet/exceed company and customer expectations
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Experience:
- Experience with a variety of material handling processes
- Forklift Operator certified
- Management and supervisory experience in a fast paced, dead-line oriented environment
- Knowledgeable of proper staffing to the day-to-day need – drive productivity
- Aware of the cost of doing business; P&L experience, understand fixed and variable costs
- Safety oriented
- Very good verbal and written communication skills; communicates well with staff as well as customers, suppliers, other divisions of company
- Prefer a manager & planner rather than a physical doer --- should be a roll-up sleeves mentality, & walk-around manager
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook
- Possess excellent leadership and motivational skills
Education:
Accurately read and write English so as to able to understand text and identify numbers in a fast-paced environment.
Experience:
Be able to operate a bar-code scanner accurately and save scanned files in the PC.
Forklift operating experience necessary and a current foklift operators certification.
Process warehouse transactions/procedures within specified account and have a working knowledge of FIFO, LIFO, etc…
Certification:
Be certified to operate forklift and any other available warehouse handling equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly for extended periods.
