Brief Description
Carries out the direction of the Road and Bridge Superintendent in the area of road construction, maintenance and reconstruction.
Detailed Description
Completes assignments as directed by the Superintendent and ensures maintenance and road construction operations are in accordance with project plans. Ensures that communication is clear and concise with internal and external contacts to enable effective implementation of project plans. Provides close supervision and direction to staff to ensure projects are on schedule and quality is maintained. Reviews, advises and assists with construction problems and refers to supervision when necessary in order to ensure best results. Maintains timekeeping and scheduling of individuals to ensure correct billing for services provided. Supervises, evaluates and trains staff makes recommendations regarding hiring, promoting and disciplining personnel and provides back-up to superintendent. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a job related field of study. Three (3) years of work related experience in reading construction plans and setting grades, to include one (1) year of supervisory experience. Must possess a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License, with a good driving record. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment. Working knowledge of equipment operations. Ability to finish road sections, including cutting blue top. Maintenance shop or road construction environment. Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing and the ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs., assisted. On call 24 hours. Ability to work in varied conditions (i.e., heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside.
