The Environmental Specialist is an established performer that works to facilitate and support Engineering function and projects by participating in various aspects of projects related to compliance, sustainability, and Industrial Hygiene /Environmental management.
Duties And Responsibilities Of The Position
- Monitor fugitive emissions and other critical industrial hygiene metrics/Hazards, to identify and recommend actions/projects to ensure conformance and compliance with federal, state, and municipal legislation and regulations regarding environmental and health control.
- Prepare, coordinate, and perform OSHA compliance audits for multiple sites and states.
- Assist in completing an occupational health hazard inventories.
- Maintain and update OSHA Standards recordkeeping; prepare reports and update files.
- Maintain chemical inventory; responsible for new chemical/material review. Ensure these chemicals/materials are added to appropriate inventories and information is updated.
- Participates in cross-functional audits in support of other Mohawk teams and provide input as needed, including third-party audits.
- Train plant hourly and salary personnel in effective industrial hygiene hazards and controls, ventilation and housekeeping practices and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams to implement process changes and improvements.
- Perform accurate analyses, conduct research, and draw meaningful conclusions about potential job/work-area impacts.
- Draw from prior experience, interpret facts, and identify incomplete data/anomalies to solve problems.
- Use innovative solutions to enhance personal work and, where applicable, the work of the team.
- Effectively apply functional, process, and procedural or technical knowledge to address business challenges.
- Provide guidance and assistance to the plant Safety professionals.
- Influence others within the job area through explanation of facts and policies to resolve routine issues.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 2-4 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six-Sigma and/or Lean certifications are preferred.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of technical, process, and business principles as well as industry practices and standards.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential data.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite products.

- Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions caused by noise, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and other conditions associated with a high-traffic production floor.
- Must be able to walk long distances and stand for long periods of time.
- Bending, crouching, and stooping may be required.
- Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled facilities.
- The work environment may be a noisy, high traffic manufacturing production floor.
- May be required to work a flexible schedule to include evening and night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
- The ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to travel up to 20% (travel will mainly be to sites listed)
