Greenhouse Production Crew or Team Leader

Our Greenhouse Production Crew Leaders are primarily accountable for overseeing a crew or team of Greenhouse Production Workers to achieve production goals efficiently, accurately, and safely. 

Upon completion of orientation and training for specific job duties, Crew Leaders are expected to do the work as well as supervise a team. It is a very hands-on role in our greenhouse production environment with varied duties throughout the year. 

Crew Leaders must be able to work our production shift hours, which may vary slightly throughout the year. Generally, hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4 or 5 pm. Some Saturdays are required during peak production and shipping months (March, April, May, June, September, October). 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Supervise tasks assigned to teams of about six (6) Greenhouse Production Workers
• Plant, pinch, set out, space move, decorate, pack, label, and maintain crops in the production environment 
• Demonstrate each task to workers and help to complete each task efficiently 
• Read specific details related to each crop and carrying out those instructions 
• Ensure quality of crops and perform duties as to not damage crops 
• Inspect crops for growth, health, insects and diseases and communicate findings with Production Manager 
• Gather and prepare product per customer orders (such as adding sleeves or pot covers) 
• Assemble character mums, wreaths, log planters, boxes, and other product or material as needed 
• Wash, bag, box pumpkins and other fall ornamentals 
• Count for inventory purposes 
• Perform general housekeeping tasks (such as cleaning sections of greenhouse to prepare for next product cycle)  
• Any other duties assigned by management 

  Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

• Strong desire to work with plants and work in greenhouse production environment  
• Effective communication skills 
• Strong attention to detail 
• Able to accurately follow and give instructions  
• Must be able to read and write English; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus 
• Knowledge of greenhouse production environment and equipment helpful
• Degree or 1 year experience in horticulture or related field helpful 
• At least 6 months experience in a supervisory role required  

Physical Demands & Work Environment: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: regularly required to stand, walk, bend, use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; occasionally required to sit, push, pull, twist, reach with hands and arms, lift, move or carry up to 20 pounds; exposed to varying temperatures, noise levels, dirt, dust, and other possible allergens.
