Job Description
The Quality Engineering Manager will, coordinate, and manage the activities associated with one or multiple New Product Development (NPD) projects, CIO change control including reliability plans to ensure compliance to internal and external requirements during the development and commercialization of new products.
As part of a project team, the Quality Engineering Manager, will be responsible for developing sound Design History File deliverables, including, but not limited to, Quality Plans, Supplier Qualification Strategies/Quality Agreements, Manufacturing Quality Plan, Design Verification protocols and reports, and conducting Design History File Verifications at the end of each design control phase. In addition, will actively participate in design characterization, risk management activities, and design and process including software and hardware validation.
No direct reports at this time but, do expect responsibilities to expand.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead product test and acceptance planning sessions for projects of all levels of complexity.
- Audit engineering deliverables with a cross-functional subject matter experts
- Drive improvements on engineering milestone deliverables
- Ensure coherent relationships between requirements, DFMEA and design validation
- Audit external supplier qualification including DFM and PPAP
- Contribute to design input requirements from experience with previously reported problems from internal sources (non-conforming material reports, yield, rework) or external sources (customer complaints), competitive devices and/or other similar products
- Applies sound, systematic problem-solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving quality issues.
- Establish effective corrective action plans as part of the project lessons learned
- Track and report field ppm trends for new product launches
- Analyze metrics such as PPM, MTBF (Mean time between failures), $PU (Claim cost per unit).
- Monitors product problem concerns using quality and reliability tools such as Failure Mode Reviews, Reliability Risk Assessment, Accelerated Lab Testing, etc, to seeks commitment from appropriate departments/units so that necessary actions can be taken
- Participate in the identification, assessment, and disposition of product issues, software anomalies, design, and manufacturing changes
- Perform Risk Management activities using FMEA and other methodologies to verify effectiveness of risk mitigations
- Partner with Investigation center to develop reliability and quality dashboard based on trends & improvements activities
Background & Skills
- Requires a minimum of a 4 year degree in engineering
- 2-4 years direct experience in a Product Development, Reliability or R&D Organization
- Solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals and proven ability to apply this knowledge to new product development and manufacturing.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Self motivating and able to balance multiple priorities and tight deadlines with minimal supervision
- Experience using quality tools and statistical programs like Minitab, risk assessment (FMEA), experimental design (DOE) and process improvement (SPC) is required.
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong writing, mathematics and statistics skills
- Organizational skills as well as time management skills essential for project work.
- Prefer certification as a CQA, CQE, CRE or CQM, and member of the ASQ.
- Prefer Six Sigma certification.
- Prefer one to two years of auditor experience.
