Title: 50% Half-Time Health Sciences Non-RN Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Salary: State Salary Plus Local Supplement
Term: 10 Month
Under general supervision, provides extensive expertise to teach Health Sciences courses as part of the Career and Technical Education Program. Designs and implements an effective and appropriate educational and vocational training program for assigned students to prepare them for employment; works collaboratively with pupils, parents, support staff, administrators, health organizations, agencies, and community groups to enhance the training and employment opportunities for students.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge of the healthcare industry to include long-term care, home health, hospital healthcare occupations and procedures, doctor’s offices, health clinics, and health and safety requirements.
Assesses students in required credentials tethered to courses taught (i.e. BLS, First Aid, Stop the Bleed, OSHA 10-Hour Healthcare, etc.)
Knowledge of methodologies, techniques, and practices used to educate and train youth in health sciences.
Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study prescribed by the District and State approved curriculum.
Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students in a Health Occupations program.
Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
Establishes and maintains standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
Evaluate the academic and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which s/he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records.
Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
Participates in faculty and/or district committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications
Unrestricted NC Teaching License: 721 Health Science Education - Non-RN
Related degree: Bachelor’s or Associate degree in medical/health occupations field or health education
Related work experience: minimum of 2 years in medical/health occupations field or health educator
Credential(s) prior to teaching: medical/health state license or candidates with a health education degree and related work experience may use a successful score on the ETS Praxis Exam 5551 (Health Education Specialist) as defined in LICN-003
