GENERAL SUMMARY At the direction of the Director of Clinical Education and in conjunction with the Clinical Manager of Inpatient Services, supports the development of clinical skills in the staff, whether a novice or expert in their field.# Maintains clinical skills that facilitate ongoing education and just-in-time training for clinical staff.# Collaborates with the Director and Manager to assure that organizational priorities are incorporated into educational planning. FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates effectively with the Director and Manager to identify educational priorities. Plans and coordinates programs (in collaboration with the clinical experts) that will meet the identified needs. Provides an appropriate climate for learning that facilitates the development of clinical competence in the clinical staff. Develops and maintains, in collaboration with others, an orientation program for new graduate nurses, including oversight of department specific Nurse Residency Program (NRP). Develops and maintains, in collaboration with others, an orientation program for the newly hired RN, LNA and HUC staff. Identifies learning needs and develops plans and processes to provide ongoing support for staff proficiency in daily assigned tasks. Facilitates and monitors the completion of annual and mandatory education requirements for staff. Maintains a consistent and frequent presence in the clinical areas in order to identify educational and/or training needs. Facilitates and maintains an individualized educational plan with staff in the department. Assists the staff to identify their needs, while fostering an environment that encourages lifelong learning. Maintains clinical skills in order to work at the bedside in learning situations, role model responses to clinical challenges, and provide #just in time# learning when observing a need while making rounds. Works effectively and collaboratively with other departments and educators to facilitate the work required to support staff development. Supports and engages staff in departmental and organizational quality initiatives. POSITION REQUIREMENTS# Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting, preferably Med/Surg and/or a step-down unit. Preferred experience with Learning Management systems Proficient in medication administration and physical assessments Excellent written and verbal communication Proficient in Microsoft computer applications (Excel, PP, Word) Ability to provide support/presence to all staff with consideration given to staffing shifts Experience Education Current NH RN license Curren BLS and ACLS certification BSN required Master#s degree preferred but will accept current enrollment in MSN or enrollment within 1 year of hire.
