What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Manager position at Davenport University Dining?
As the Service Manager, works within the Dining Services Department to ensure that excellence in customer service is being provided throughout the operation, while assuring that food is presented attractively, and in a fiscally responsible and sustainable manner. Works professionally and cooperatively as a valued member of the dining services management team, assisting with any aspect of the dining services program necessary.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
● Training and managing all service/FOH staff
● Participates in hiring, scheduling, time keeping, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions of service/FOH staff
● Under the direction of the Dining Services Director, supervises and coordinates all service activities within the operation
● Maintains an organized system of comprehensive record keeping
● Maintains established food presentation and service standards
● Participates with Food Committee meetings
● Communicates menu offerings in an attractive and effective manner, paying attention to potential special dietary needs of the customer
● Plans for and implements corporate marketing initiatives, maintains complete records of special events and pace changers in the operation, providing marketing summaries to the CDS home office upon completion
● Maintains appropriate levels of service related supplies, decorations
● Ensures that the service area is decorated appropriately for holidays, special events, marketing initiatives, and pace changers
● Ensures that all service equipment works and is maintained properly, service area and office are neat and organized
● Ensures the service area is always safe and sanitary; C.L.E.A.N.Works! program is followed
● Maintains good public relations with all customers, clients, staff, vendors, and the community; achieves high levels of customer and client satisfaction;
● Conducts and is responsive to customer satisfaction surveys; maintains comment card system
● Conducts continuing analysis of service operation, recommending any operational changes necessary to the Dining Services Director
● Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
The Service Manager position involves working in an office environment operating standard office equipment and technology along with physical work in a commercial kitchen environment.
Responsibilities include moving inventory, product, carts, tables, etc. as well as using kitchen utensils and commercial kitchen equipment. Environment may include hot, humid, or cold temperatures. May require extended working hours at times. Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs.

Education – Skills - Expectations
● College degree preferred in Hospitality
● 3 years management & leadership experience of a team of 20 people
● Must be able to use MS Word, Excel, Power Point
● ServSafe Certification
Must possess a positive, can-do attitude, be detail oriented, and possess a basic knowledge of the food service and/or hospitality industry. Must maintain professionalism at all times, and work with others in a cooperative manner, even while working under pressure. Willing to engage actively in the physical work of a high-quality food service operation.
