What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deli Cashier - Second Shift position at DC Farmers Co-op?
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for top rate customer service in all aspects of the convenience store through effective management of customer transactions, product rotation, hot and cold food preparation, and stocking supplies appropriately throughout the shift. Although flexibility with scheduling is generally required for the selected candidate, we are currently recruiting for an early morning opener (4 AM) at our Winston Shell location.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepare hot and cold items in accordance with all applicable food safety laws.
- Maintain store stocking levels, appropriate product rotation, and organize merchandise in a neat and attractive way to promote sales.
- Monitor merchandise pricing as it is scanned or entered for accuracy.
- Processes cash register payments, stamps, coupons, purchases, returns, and exchanges according to store policy.
- Address all customer concerns with respect and sincerity.
- Greet all customers upon entry and exit of the Shell convenience store.
- Follow all company policies to ensure that customers are assisted quickly, accurately, and in a friendly manner.
- Maintain the cleanliness of checkout areas in an organized manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to operate available equipment, such as: computers, cash registers, calculators, scanners, fryers, oil filer, grill, beverage machines, and all other food prep related equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, in order to make change and give refunds accurately.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such a s safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Communicate professionally via phone, email, and in-person with customers, staff, and vendors.
- Become knowledgeable about company’s products and services, to make proper recommendations of products and services sold.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with management, co-workers, vendors, and customers in a friendly, open, and approachable manner.
- Must have the ability to adapt to frequent priority changes based on business needs.
Education and Experience:
- One or more years of customer service and cash handling experience.
- Familiarity with retail and restaurant/deli environment is highly desired.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Bending, twisting, stooping, and kneeling required frequently to rearrange merchandise and verify stock levels.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently
- May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements with fingers, hands, arms, wrists, & legs over long periods of time.
