Qualifications:
High School Diploma required.
Must meet DDI approved driving criteria as established by Policy 553.
Must have CPR, SCIP, First Aide Certification.
Must possess one year experience and expertise in instructing and managing behaviors of individuals with autism and/or developmental disabilities.
Must be able to work independently, while following programmatic guidelines.
Must have or obtain a NYS teaching or teaching assistant certification within 6 months in this position.
Responsibilities:
Works with students at job sites to train students to work in competitive employment.
Works on improving all skills necessary for students to be successful in vocational experiences, in-house or in the community. Examples include travel training, work site skills instruction, behavior management, communication and social skills.
Responsible for overseeing the assigned in-house jobs and all other applicable documentation for caseload.
Completes site books and completes all required data, attendance and paperwork.
Assists with other student work assignments if needed.
Participates in quarterly and team meetings for students they are assigned.
Ensures the completion of tasks/duties assigned to the students by the jobsite supervisor.
Acts as a liaison with the student’s jobsite supervisor while building natural supports at the workplace.
Assists with building wide duties, such as a rotational bus duty.
Familiar with and acts in accordance with all policies and procedures in the CDS Handbook for Staff.
Must take and pass all required trainings within time expectations.
Must maintain an orderly and safe clerical area to use with students
Driving Responsibilities: Transport developmentally disabled individuals throughout Suffolk County.
- Operate vehicle in safe manner at all times
- Obey all rules of the road
- Perform pre-trip inspection
- Report any violations received
- Drive vehicles solely for DDI business
- Follow all agency policies and procedures
- Take time to learn and improve your driving skills
- Ensure safety and well being of all individuals
- Complete all necessary paperwork on a daily basis (route sheet, vehicle log, Incident reports & etc)
- Safeguard vehicle
- Ensure that all individuals are received by a responsible adult after they exit the van
- Maintain a clean vehicle
- Report vehicle defects immediately
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times
- Must maintain First Aide, CPR and SCIP Certification
Essential Physical Demands:
Must be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the children i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs
Must be able to lift/move 20 lbs (mats)
Must be able to run after student up to 500 feet
Must be able to run to a classroom in need up to 500 feet
Must be able to kneel, twist and bend
Must be able to respond to fire alarms
