Decatur Maker is a welcoming, all-ages non-profit makerspace with a mission of empowering a community of creatives, builders and learners. Founded in 2013, Decatur Makers has grown into a valuable resource that directly addresses educational needs, builds community, and fosters economic opportunities for people of all ages, skill sets, and backgrounds through our programs. In our 3,000 square foot space, we have a wood shop, metal shop, electronics shop, arts & crafts area, 3D printers, 3D laser printers and more all under one roof where experts and novices of all ages get hands-on, celebrating and learning from mistakes, to build, innovate, and explore ideas. Our membership has grown to over 400 members and our reach is so much more. Through all of our programs and our many partnerships with organizations in the community, Decatur Makers has positively impacted thousands of people of all-ages in the larger mero-Atlanta area.
The Position:
Decatur Makers is currently seeking a full-time Makerspace Manager to lead all aspects of overseeing the makerspace, membership, and the organization. They will focus on facilities management, member management, volunteer management and coordinating classes as well as being an ambassador of our diverse, inclusive and welcoming organization. The Makerspace Manager will work closely with the Executive Director to help the membership and the larger Atlanta community get more value from using the Space. This position will require a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of a community makerspace including organization, maintenance, inventory
- Provide general maintenance and upkeep to all areas of the makerspace
- Managing membership experience, back-end systems and data
- Managing the organization’s calendar
- Coordinate educators, classes, and community gatherings
- Coordinate membership communications
- Recruit, train, coordinate and manage volunteers for various projects
- Give tours and respond to inquiries about the space
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Skills:
- General knowledge of (and experience with) managing training and safety in a makerspace environment preferred.
- Experience and skill in one or more of the following areas together with a willingness to develop skills in the areas: woodworking, machining, welding, metalwork, 3D design and fabrication, electronic prototyping, sewing and textiles and other types of making.
- Membership management experience preferred
- Volunteer management experience preferred
- Creative problem solving instincts, the ability to learn quickly, and an interest in utilizing both traditional and non-traditional tools.
- Adapts to new work situations, people, ideas, procedures, and organizational structures, in order to accommodate an evolving work environment.
- Experience working well with others in a collaborative capacity is a requirement
- Must be a problem-solver and able to pivot easily in a quickly changing environment
- Experience developing, assessing, and managing projects from start to finish
- Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times
- Willingness to be trained and utilize organization's CRM
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Knowledge of Google apps preferred

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt
Salary: $42,000 - $46,000, commensurate with experience;
