Social Studies Teacher

Job Title: Social Studies Teacher
Direct Supervisor: Principal
Contract Days: 10 Months
Position Responsibilities:
1) Teach two American History classes, two American Government classes, one Current Events class
each day and a 12th grade advisory
2) Establish daily objectives that align to the DLS Social Studies Framework and Missouri Learning
Standards
3) Plan for, differentiate and guide the learning process to ensure all students achieve the daily
objectives
4) Facilitate “hands-on” activities and real world learning projects that allow students to learn by
experiencing and exploring
5) Implement useful formative and summative assessment measures
6) Select and utilize effective instructional methods and learning materials
7) Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment that is conducive to learning
8) Use discipline models of Restorative Justice to maintain a positive, encouraging learning
environment
9) Establish a cooperative and collaborative relationship with students, staff and families to achieve
the overall purposes of the school program
10) Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians
11) Participate in routine meetings, trainings, and professional development
12) Regular and dependable attendance
13) Additional assigned duties such as lunch duty, early arrival AM duty, dismissal duty etc.
Position Qualifications:
1) A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
2) A valid Missouri Teacher's Certificate (applicable level-area endorsements preferred)
3) Ability to pass an extensive background check
4) Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience
5) Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education
6) Excellent verbal and written communication skills
7) Strong PC skills
8) Organized, self-starter with the ability to adapt to support the best interest of the student
9) Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students
