Staff Accountant

Responsibilities

• Accounts Payable
  • Timely and accurate entry of invoices in accounting system and payment of invoices
  • Management of vendors in accounting system by collecting proper documentation for new vendors and assisting with vendor needs (i.e., sales tax exempt certificates, insurance documentation, W-9s, etc.)
  • Evaluating payment methods to ensure most cost-effective method for the Company; proactively seeks best payment methods for vendors
  • Continuous development of processes that are effective and efficient
• Accounting Team Backup
  • Crosstrain in all Accounting Department responsibilities to serve as backup when needed
• Financial Statements, Reports, and Projections: assist as needed
  • Daily Cash Flow
  • Perform job cost analysis on jobs once completed
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and projections
• Tax Returns and Filings
  • Ensuring vendors are properly tracked in accordance with 1099 status
  • Completion and timely filing of 1099’s
  • Audit and timely payment of annual property and personal property taxes; filing of annual personal property tax reporting
  • Assist in other areas within Accounting Department to prepare tax returns and filings as needed
• Fleet and Driver Management
  • Maintaining permanent files for assets (titles, insurance paperwork, bills of sale, etc.)
  • Licensing and taxes for assets based on collaboration with the Transportation Department
  • Maintaining driver records in compliance with policies and insurance
• Internal Control Systems – develop and maintain systems of internal control to safeguard assets
• General Continuous Improvement, Innovation, and Change Management
  • Drive positive change and maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in accounting, finance, and tax
  • Based on knowledge, make recommendations to CFO/Accounting team for improvement of DeLong’s policies, procedures, and practices with an emphasis on helping the Company reach its strategic plan objectives and improve financial performance
  • Identify and suggest opportunities to reduce waste/improve efficiency in the Accounting Department and the Company
  • Identify and address potential financial risks for the Company
  • Review financial reports and determine methods to reduce costs
  • Feel empowered to seek and make changes for continuous improvement
• Employee/Leadership Development
  • Employee cross-training within Accounting Department: ensure others know how to complete your role and ability to cover for others within the department as needed
  • Development through continuing education and development opportunities
  • Quarterly goal setting meetings and annual reviews with CFO
  • Employee engagement – Assist in creating a culture of pride, technical competence, and a sense of personal responsibility for spending money
• Other duties and special projects as determined by the CFO
