JOB DESCRIPTION

The Actuary is responsible for independently performing critical, high-level actuarial analysis including but not limited to forecasting, reserving, fee development, regulatory requirements, and financial reporting. This role actively supports all internal and external customers to explain and support analyses and methodologies. Additionally, an Actuary identifies opportunities to improve tools, systems, or processes and makes recommendations to Actuarial leadership. This position may involve specialization in one or more key areas of the actuarial practice. Other responsibilities are to help staff training in one on one or small group format and/or through process documentation improvements, performing the largest, most complex analyses, and work independently with minimal oversight.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs comprehensive analysis ranging from client-specific to global (book of business) using experience from the largest, most complex datasets.
  • Provides review of analyses developed by Actuarial Analysts and Senior Actuarial Analysts.
  • Provides support to fellow actuarial team members through peer review process.
  • Resolves escalated or complex issues or problems.
  • Prepares and presents documents to support analysis to internal and external customers.
  • Continuously improves tools, systems, or processes within actuarial domain.
  • Educates team on changes to internal guidelines, regulatory, and legal landscape.
  • Contributes to staff training through process documentation improvements and/or in one on one or small group format.
  • Advises and provides guidance on actuarial reporting to internal and external customers.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7 years actuary experience with a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) preferred.
  • Dental and/or health actuarial experience.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of actuarial concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics and statistical applications.
  • Knowledge of database design, structure, and tools.
  • Strong organization, time and project management skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no oversight.

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications, and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. $92,000 - $196,500
