What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Counselor position at Delta Health?
Financial counselors are qualified professionals who provide information, advice and advocacy to people in financial difficulty. The financial counselor will explain financial information determine prospective patients ability to pay, and assist with the application process. The Financial counselor will educate patients on their financial obligations to the facility, and follow up with patients and other parties to ensure accuracy and completeness of the information. This employee would be responsible for processing Colorado Indigent Care Program, Medicare Indigent Care Program and Charity Care applications for the hospital. Write off balances on ACICP/AMDCRIN/ACHCARE charity account and maintain the necessary spreadsheets.
- Communicate with patients on the phone.
- Appropriately document and report payment information.
- Educate patients about payment options and financial assistance and recommend appropriate programs to assist with medical expenses.
- Negotiate and strategize patient payment arrangements.
- Update patient accounts and balances.
- Maintain the files and answer to the Financial Auditors along with submitting the quarterly and year end reports to the state.
- Knowledgeable about Medicaid, charity policy, CICP application, MDCRIN application, disability programs and any local medical financial help available.
- Completing financial assistance applications on available programs and plans. File applications after director approves, record write off transactions and reports a yearly summary to CICP and auditors. Attend CICP training sessions.
- Contacts patients for surgery estimates and provides instructions and documents arrangements.
