Job Title: Accounting Assistant
Reports to: Accounting Director
Salary: $50,000 - $60,000/annually, generous benefits package
Location: Madison, WI (Please note: Employment with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin requires residence or willingness to relocate to the state of Wisconsin.)

The Opportunity: As an Accounting Assistant, you will work with the Accounting Director to support the needs of accounting and compliance at all levels. You will be primarily responsible for providing support with all DPW mail, including processing daily contributions and ensuring accurate data entry of contributions in our accounting software. You will also provide support processing payables and reimbursements, and performing bank account reconciliations among other tasks as assigned. This is a hybrid role, with regular in-person obligations including picking up mail and passing it along to the Accounting Director after it has been processed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the intake and data entry of all DPW mail and ensure all pieces are sent to the correct department including contributions, invoices, memberships, and more.
  • Provide support with tracking and processing invoices through our invoices inbox and accounts payable software.
  • Ensure that income and expenditure processes (data entry) are completed in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
  • Assist with tasks pertaining to budgeting and compliance with campaign finance law as needed.
  • Assist with bank reconciliation on a regular basis as necessary
  • Coordinate and maintain physical and digital filing systems and records retention process
  • Consult with management, providing accounting support as needed.
  • On year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election preparation as necessary.

  • Technical Proficiency - Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel

  • Independent Work Skills -  Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of complex tasks and procedures, can strategically prioritize tasks to maximize time without sacrificing quality.
  • Willingness to Adapt - Flexible and able to adapt to shifting priorities, can handle a diverse and evolving workload over prolonged periods of time.
  • Managing Confidentiality - Has past experience managing confidential information with care.
Qualification (Preferred): 
  • NGP / EveryAction Knowledge of and/or experience with NGP and campaign accounting software.
  • Knowledge of Basic Accounting/Finance Principals - Background in general accounting, financial management, and filing management.
  • Previous Administrative Work - Experience with clerical office work and organization.
  • Access to Reliable Transportation.
