Job Description
The Billing Specialist communicates with insurance companies, insurance coordinators, and other team members in dental practices to ensure that all claims are submitted, processed, and all insurance payments are posted in a timely manner. This position is responsible for handling all insurance payments including checks, Electronic Funds Transfers (EFTs), and credit cards as well as making payment transfers and adjustments to ledgers as required to arrive at an accurate reflection of patient ledgers.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Scrub and send daily clean claims
- Accurately post all insurance payments received by the end of the following business day (24 hrs after receipt)
- Complete adjustments according to EOB
- Pull EFTs daily and upload into the corresponding Drive
- Keep drive folders organized and accurately labeled with correction information
- Ensure all payments posted balance according to uploaded Deposit slip in Drive
- Ensure all payments posted balance according to EFT pull
- Work first two levels of appeals for denied procedures when applicable
- Work outstanding claim reports
- Update RCM daily report, amount posted, number of claims closed, number of claims sent, problem claims worked, outstanding claims worked etc
- Research any Insurance overpayment requests and forward to billpay.com
- Update Accounts when notified by Accounting of insurance overpayments processed
Required Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge and experience with dental insurance
- Excellent relationship and rapport building experience and ability to communicate confidently, effectively and clearly to present information to team members, and leadership
- Computer proficiency including practice management software and ability to learn new programs
- Ability to use sound judgement, demonstrate independent thinking, and provide recommendations to manager
- Ability to collaborate and demonstrate a teamwork approach to job responsibilities
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, dependability and promptness
- Ability to perform frequent repetitive work with attention to detail
