Hematology/Oncology PhysiciansJob Summary
The Denver Health Division of Hematology and Oncology has an opportunity for a Genetic Councilor to join our team. Under minimal supervision, performs and applies the full range of professional practices in the genetics field. Interviews patients and families, reviews and evaluates medical, laboratory and history data to provide education and counseling regarding genetic conditions. Explains technical information on testing processes and results, makes follow up contacts, and prepares and maintains case documents. Acts as the Coordinator doing follow up with patients that have risk for hereditary cancer. Responsibilities may include research and preparation.
Essential Functions:
- Provides direct patient care/contact for provision of counseling services. Assists with procedures. Reviews genetic testing results with patient and family. (25%)
- Completes administrative patient scheduling and chart review. (25%)
- Acts as contact for provision of hereditary cancerf counseling services, performing follow up with patients that have risk of cancer. (25%)
- Educates staff including, medical students, residents, and genetic counseling students. (25%)
Education:
- Master's Degree Required
Work Experience:
- 1-3 years genetic counseling experience preferred.
Licenses:
- BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of general genetics along with specialized diseases.
- Knowledge of testing processes.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Must be patient and understanding.
- Ability to thoroughly record the medical history of each patient, and spend time evaluating the data.
- Ability to take the information gathered, and apply it to their evaluation of what the family history means for each individual.
- Ability to interpret and relay results.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Records systems, preferably EPIC.

Salary : $76,900 - $115,400
