What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Fellowship position at Design Students League?
The Design Students League invites applications for the 2022 cohort of Design Fellows.
The Design Fellowship provides access to high impact, results-driven courses designed for professionals and scholars from all backgrounds who are looking to gain deeper insight and practice in the field of design.
Fellows will work closely with faculty members of the Design Students League to scope and develop a course of study that aligns to their professional goals and aspirations. Fellows will engage in coursework to build an understanding of design thinking and creative ideation that further develops them as makers of original products and ideas. Fellows will receive the proper education to prepare them for their professional design careers, with the goal for Fellows to land a job in design.
The Design Fellowship encourages a diverse group of students and professionals to apply for this unique opportunity regardless of their experience or background in a creative discipline. Fellows participate in the program part-time, taking up to 10 courses over 5 academic terms for their training in the field of design they want to pursue.
Successful applicants will have:
- An interest in design, innovation, art and creative practice.
- A demonstrated history of problem solving and innovative thinking.
- Time management skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
- An eagerness to integrate new toolkits and domains of knowledge into their practice.
Selected Fellowship recipients will:
- Commit 6-20 hours a week to attending class, completing daily lessons, assignments, and readings, depending on course load.
- Meet with their assigned faculty to thoughtfully discuss their work and progress.
- Work diligently on design prompts to develop a finished design project by the end of their coursework.
- Receive quality education and feedback from faculty in order to prepare them for their upcoming professional design career.
Funding of the Fellowship uses a progressive funding model that allows students access to courses and resources of the Design Students League without immediate financial burden.
