The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of architectural design, engineering coordination, and construction methodology, with a focus on developing accurate and detailed specifications for a wide range of projects. The role involves reviewing architectural, electrical, manufacturing, and relevant detailed drawings/blueprints, as well as assisting project managers in preparing bidding documents and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements including all building codes and OSHA requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering, design trends, construction methodology & safety, building systems, automotive industry standards, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
- Understand engineering systems, equipment, technology requirements, and detailing, and their relationship. Working knowledge of industry and sustainability practices.
- Write specifications for A/E/C projects, including construction document preparation and field observation. Ensure compliance with necessary state & federal codes, regulatory standards and building commission policies desirable. Prepare technical documents (specifications and other contract documents) for incorporation into Specific Project Manuals.
- Lead efforts to standardize specifications and coordinate cross-discipline review among specification owners and committees.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, production, safety, and quality assurance, to gather input and incorporate technical feasibility into specifications. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of associates and senior business leaders and municipalities.
- Assist project managers with the preparation of General and Supplemental Conditions and bidding documents.
- Utilize Specification Software such as MasterSpec, SpecLink, and/or SpecsIntact.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Exhibit strong grammar, syntax, and presentation skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
- Professional certification (e.g., CSI Certification) is a plus. Knowledge of LEED and sustainability practices is desirable.

Education and Ideal Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Technical Writer in the automotive industry or a closely related field.
- Experience working for A/E/C firms is a plus.
- Strong understanding of automotive systems, components, and technologies.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in authoring tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with markup languages such as XML and HTML is desirable.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards applicable to the automotive industry (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949) is a plus.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and technologies as needed.
Preferences and Qualifications
- The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Must be self-directed with exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Proven experience working with new equipment installation, equipment integration, and existing equipment, infrastructure modification, and/or utilities modification.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- The factory has both office area and manufacturing floor area. Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting the manufacturing floor is required.
