Position Title: Director, Global Cost Estimating

Location: Dallas, TX or New Jersey

Your role

As a Director, Global Cost Estimating, Implementation Services you will be responsible for managing the Global Cost Estimating team and team’s strategy for further development of Digital Realty cost estimating capabilities. You will be working cross functionally with internal teams including Sales, Sales Engineering, Data Center Operations, Product, Procurement/Supply Chain and Finance teams.

You will be responsible for the Global Cost Estimating team ensuring the team is delivering high-quality results, providing cost estimates, ROMs budgets and cost quality assurance checks for customer white space fit-outs across data centers in the DLR global portfolio within internal service fulfilment SLAs.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and oversee the cost estimating function for data center projects globally, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
• Develop and implement standardized cost estimating processes and best practices across all regions.
• Collaborate with the senior leadership, project managers, and other stakeholders to align cost estimating activities with business objectives.
• Develop and maintain the cost database (with breakout for labor vs material costs) across the global portfolio including market by market, country by country benchmarking, and metrics. Ensure the database is calibrated and in synch with the latest market pricing/county/market.
• Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to quote the most cost-effective solution.
• Review and validate estimates provided by contractors and subcontractors for data center construction, including, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and IT infrastructure.
• Partner with Procurement/Supply Chain in securing/documenting the best unit rates for labor and material across a large spectrum of goods and services required for the white space fit out.
• Participate in strategic planning, bid analysis, and contract negotiations for global projects.
• Collaborate with our design engineering team and strategic suppliers/installers to identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Manage and mentor a global team of cost estimators, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  
  

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or related field.
• 15 years of experience in data center industry with at least 5 years of experience in cost estimating.
• Proven leadership experience in managing and developing a global team of cost estimators.
• Expert level knowledge of white space fit-outs including rack, cage, electrical distribution, and data cable infrastructure, reading/interpreting construction plans, one-line drawings, and construction specifications and global data center construction practices, including mechanical, electrical and IT infrastructure.
• Extensive experience in preparing and reviewing cost estimates for large scale, complex data center projects across multiple regions and strategic planning, budgeting, and financial analysis, project cost accounting.
• Advanced knowledge of data center operations, understanding of costs for work in live environment and pre-con management, construction logistics and associated costs.
• Experience with cost estimating software (Primavera, Itellibid, CostX, WinEst, RSMeans, etc),
• Strong understanding of international building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to data centers.
• Certifications from recognized professional bodies (e.g. AACE International, RICS, PMP, etc) is preferred.
• Experience with MS Project, Word, Excel (Expert), Access, and Visio, and AutoCAD, Yardi, SalesForce, ServiceNow, and Oracle ERP.
