Seldovia Native Association (SNAI) is seeking a detailed oriented Corporate Controller to ensure the accuracy and integrity of company financial records. As the Corporate Controller, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction, coordination, and management of the company's accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable, project accounting, and general ledger.

As the Corporate Controller is a senior level position reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer this person will require a strategic mindset, a hands-on approach and high degree of professionalism supporting the organization's Executive team, subsidiaries, department managers, and staff. You will lead the effort to ensure accounting and financial systems, processes, workflows, and staff are efficient, keeping costs low, while maintaining quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the implementation and oversite of accounting systems, internal financial controls, policies and procedures, and desktop procedure manuals to maintain accurate financial records
  • Supervise and provide support to the payroll, accounts payable, project accounting, and general ledger functional managers
  • Manage and monitor cash flows for efficient and effective utilization of operating cash
  • Produce monthly financial reports for the CFO, CEO, COO, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders
  • Develop the annual corporate budget and update of monthly forecasts
  • Manage the yearly financial statement audit, tax preparation, and draft financial statements
  • Consistently review systems, workflows, process and staffing to ensure operational efficiencies and accuracy of data
  • Perform GAAP technical research and analysis for review by CFO
  • Identify and provide training and development opportunities for accounting department
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and team-building skills and develop and mentor accounting staff. This includes setting performance goals, conducting performance evaluations, and fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and 10 years of related accounting experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of management experience with demonstration of increased responsibility and strong supervisory skills
  • Experience with Service Contract Act, Davis Bacon, Union Collective Bargaining, and job costing
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Sage
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office 365, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Previous experience in Alaska Native Corporations preferred
  • Ability to pass a background and drug screening

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Corporate Controller will primarily work in an office setting. The office environment is professional, collaborative, and conducive to focused work. The typical office amenities and equipment, including computer, phones, and other necessary tools, will be provided.

This position may require minimal travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

SEDENTARY WORK

The position involves predominantly sedentary work. Most tasks will be performed while sitting at a desk or a computer workstation.

SCREEN TIME

Extensive use of computer screens and keyboards is required. The role involves working in various software applications and may require extended periods of screen time.

LIFTING & CARRYING

Minimal physical effort is required. Occasionally, the employee may need to lift or carry light office supplies or materials.

MOBILITY

The employees will need to move around the office to attend meetings, access shared resources, and collaborate with team members.

ABOUT SELDOVIA NATIVE ASSOCIATION, INC.

SNAI is an Alaska Native-Owned Village Corporation serving its more than 400 Native shareholders Alaska Native Corporations are the result of the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, which was signed into law in 1971. The act was intended to resolve long-standing issues surrounding aboriginal land claims, to stimulate economic development throughout Alaska, as well as to settle land and financial claims.

SNAI owns 167,000 acres of land on both side of the Cook Inlet. A large portion of the Corporation’s land is located adjacent to the Community of Seldovia and along the shoreline and uplands adjacent to Kachemak Bay. All of SNAI’s lands are private lands and access is allowed by permit only.

The Corporation also owns a large commercial property on the waterfront in the City of Seldovia. The property once a grocery store operation housed with an eight-room hotel suite above the store. The store and hotel operations were discontinued in 2009. The company is assessing future uses for the property which has a commanding view of the picturesque Seldovia Bay.
