3. What does a “normal” day in this position look like?
There is not a set schedule for this position since it is a PRN or as needed position.
A typical day in this role begins with a report from the previous shift advising of any necessary updates on the folks, medications, or extra cleaning duties that need to be completed. This is an independent shift which means another staff member will not be present for this shift. This is not a complete list any or all job responsibilities, but encompasses the general duties of a Direct Support Professional.
- Medication passes
- Meal preparation for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Outings as planned (Shopping, movies, outdoor activities, etc.)
- Supervise or assist if necessary with the folks cleaning duties
A typical weekday (Monday-Thursday) in this role begins with picking the folks up from the Activity Center and returning to the home. The house manager also comes on shift at 4 p.m. so that there can be available staff to assist with evening routines. A typical evening routine consists of
- Cooking dinner
- Evening medication passes
- Showering *most of our folks shower independently and require no assistance at all, however we do have a few folks on campus that require verbal prompts or reminders to ensure that they maintain proper hygiene

4. What does training look like for this position?
CPR Certification class will be scheduled for new hires who are not currently CPR certified and must be completed before working alone. There will be a minimum of 3 days of scheduled training with a fully trained staff member and additional training available if needed. New hires will additionally attend a Medication Class that is taught by our team of Registered Nurses and must be passed off on medications by their 30th day of employment. After training is completed numerous resources and contacts are available if any questions or concerns arise. We encourage our staff to ask questions and strive to continually maintain an open door policy.
5. What does it pay & what benefits does DRI offer?
DRI provides 7 hours a month for Vacation time and 8 hours a month of Sick Leave. These hours accrue from day 1 of employment and are available for use after the new hire successfully completes their 60 day introductory period.
DRI also has medical insurance available through Blue Cross Blue Shield where we are on an aged based HMO plan. Premiums vary based on the age of the candidate and DRI pays $300 per month for medical insurance. To give a general idea of what premiums will cost after DRI contributes, on our highest premium option at 30 years old, $35.52 per month would be the responsibility of the employee.
Dental, vision, and several other supplementary options are available for the employee to enroll in at affordable prices. Dental insurance is $13.92 per check for employee only and Vision insurance is $4.15 per check!
We also provide 401k match up to 3% after the employee has worked full time for DRI for 6 months.
